The Role:
MAIN GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

Deliver Fuel System Designs to meet the requirements of the Business. Responsible for the Design of the Fuel System and Components to meet the specification, test and validation requirements and achieve the cost, weight, timing and quality targets for the project. The Design Engineer will work within the Chassis department in the Fuel System Team.


MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Support Design Development

- Support the design and development of the Fuel System and specify the design requirements of the Fuel System. Lead the Design of Components. Lead Engineering Drawing / Design release and support the change management process.

Delivery of projects

- Responsible for Leading the CAD Packaging of the Fuel System : 3-D modelling, 2-D detailing and installation drawings of components which, when introduced into production, will satisfy the specified performance requirements.
- Responsible for the generation of design data according to the prevailing standards and conventions for such design data. Responsible for timely completion of specified design work for prototype build and production.
- Supporting project related activities and Reporting project status for area of responsibility in cross functional and project teams e.g. design reviews, packaging reviews. The liaison and ability to work closely with External Suppliers, Group Partners, Design Houses, Internal Customers and the understanding of cross functional working across a wide range of the business is vital to this role.
- Financial awareness of their role in the organisation and the knowledge of cost of parts and systems with an understanding of value engineering.

Problem Solving
- Ability to solve complex Engineering Design related problems. Analysis and management of multiple design related issues to identify the root cause.

Developing and maintaining Specialist knowledge
- Responsible for keeping the functional area up-to-date with technology in area of responsibility. Capture learning from previous experience. Work with group partners to Influence VW group partners to keep up to date with latest group developments.

Ability to work within a team
- Able to work effectively in the cross functional team. Lead contribution in delivering team objectives.

Budgets

- Influence on : Design and Development costs e.g. estimate number of design hours of Job to support budget estimates.
- Ability to Validate External Quotes ‘Value for money’ for design tasks. -
- Have financial awareness of Design with regard to Investment and Unit costs for Fuel System’s and offer recommendations on alternative designs to improve cost, weight, material or process improvements.

Specific Information for the Role

- Responsible for Design of Fuel System Assy & components including Fuel Storage, Fuel Delivery to Engine, Venting / Purge / OBD Systems, Fuel Caps and lines. Also Includes the SCR system. -
- Must be Flexible for Travel to suppliers, Group companies, Testing facilities, etc (mainly in Europe) -
- Must be confident to lead Design Reviews and have good communication skills to share Design information across the business, with suppliers or group companies etc.


SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

- Excellent Catia V5 CAD Skills are essential along with the ability to communicate clearly at various levels across the company in different forums.
- Ability of 3D Modelling and Surfacing of complex parts / assemblies, Packaging components within the available vehicle space and 2D drawing knowledge essential.
- CAD Data Management Skills (e.g. use of VW CAD systems : KVS , LCA, PDMU) desirable.
- Knowledge and experience of designing Chassis or Powertrain systems is preferable and experience of designing Automotive Fuel Systems is highly desirable.
- Ability to Read Drawings, understand engineering specifications, material standards & certification requirements.
- German language preferable but not essential as a significant time will be spent dealing with German Suppliers or Group companies.


PRACTICAL & TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE

- Knowledge and experience of designing Chassis or Powertrain systems is preferable and experience of designing Automotive Fuel Systems is highly desirable.
- Experience of working within Bentley and / or VW Group Business System Processes and Project Management is desirable.
- Competent in Microsoft applications e.g. Office, PowerPoint, etc.


QUALIFICATIONS

- HND or Engineering Degree or equivalent.
- Membership of a relevant professional intuition and Chartered Engineer status preferable
- Catia V5 - Certificate or proof of Training.
