The Company:
Is a leading Automotive manufacturer with a reputation for outstanding quality the world over. With demand increasing and an upturn in production, there is a need to bring further skills into the business to deliver on current and future projects.

The Role:
Responsible for leading, managing and developing a team that ensures both capacity and capability to deliver technical and business objectives to the right quality, on time and within budget for an Engineering area.

Experience in Powertrain Mounts or Steering Systems would be advantageous.

Key Responsibilities
1. Manage and lead a team to deliver technical solution in their field of expertise, to the defined Product Emergence Process
Accountable for benchmarking and target setting for Product design & development including specified targets. i.e. technical, cost, quality, weight targets; testing etc.
Responsible for delivery of the above targets through design and development including management of Engineering changes
Responsible for the collation and presentation of data to support Engineering / cross functional meetings and forums
Responsible for leading problem resolution of Warranty & Quality issues
Accountable for project / product planning and budget management for the area

2. Establish and develop effective team strategy
Responsible for organisation / structure design in order to achieve effective product development deliverables for first principles onwards
Management of all resourcing activities, personal development / talent management and succession planning to achieve team strategy
Develop team strategies (technology, people and process) to support core competence development of department and team members
Develop strong working relationships with VW Group colleagues and direct counterparts to support team deliverables

3. Management of a team and prioritisation of tasks
Responsible for cascade of business objectives to team and monitoring of objectives on a regular basis through business, departmental or personal KPI's
Support and provide guidance on technical development of system/s and/or technologies in-line with product development objectives
Management of team budgets (projects, cost centre and capital) and resource plans to support multiple product development projects
Manage and prioritise team tasks and activities for effective delivery
Effective leadership and representation in cross-functional forums and ability to influence product development towards business objectives
Responsible for effective communication channels and working relationships within the team via regular team meetings, 1:1's, performance reviews, coaching and supporting others
Management of performance, personal development and talent management within the team
Supporting business requirements / project and initiatives, or employee relations matters as appropriate

4. Accountable for developing own and team's specialist technical and business knowledge / capability
Ability to encourage, train and support others in developing practical knowledge competence and expertise in order to keep up with latest in the relevant field
Assist and coach others in all aspects of engineering process and principles
Ability to provide design and development direction / guidance to team members
Responsible for establishing and maintaining liaison with VW group colleagues and external design partners, where necessary

Degree in an appropriate Engineering discipline, or equivalent with the appropriate level of experience
Preferably Chartered Status or working towards / desire to achieve Chartered Status
Proficiency in German language would be an advantage

Previous Experience

Demonstrable experience as People Manager / has strong leadership skills, working within the Automotive industry
Demonstrable experience of Automotive Product Development in relevant area
Experience of Automotive platform engineering would be beneficial
Good business awareness and ability to make, and influence decisions within business context
Ability to monitor and plan both project and people KPI's
Excellent time management and organisational skills (self and team)
Understanding and ability to demonstrate behaviours in line with the Company People Profile
