The Company:
Our client is the worlds leading independent company in powertrain development. Based in the UK, our client has proven success in the development of powertrain systems with internal combustion engines. Our client is a highly competent partner to the engine and automotive industry.

The Role:
A junior engineer who is possibly seeking a first career move to learn and develop new skills is required to support the functional safety development of new vehicle features typically in the fields of Powertrain, Hybrids, Transmissions and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). The candidate will undertake a mixture of work split between core off-site and on-site customer feature/product development teams. This is a key role in a fast-growth area with excellent opportunities for career progression.

Your Responsibilities:
The role will require development of functional safety work products in line with the new automotive standard ISO 26262, involving the application of best-practice systems engineering principles in the following areas:
• Identifying and assessing vehicle-level hazards caused by system malfunctions
• Developing safety concepts with the system design team
• Developing and communicating clear safety requirements
• Reviewing and critiquing safety concepts proposed by suppliers
• Performing safety analyses such as FMEA and fault tree analysis
• Constructing clear, comprehensible safety arguments
• Liaising closely with system design engineers and suppliers
• Accurately and methodically documenting safety work products

The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills and have an eye for technical detail, being able to quickly grasp and interrogate the behaviour of new vehicle features.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• Minimum BSc or BEng (2:1) in Automotive or Electrical Engineering or equivalent
• 2+ years relevant engineering experience
• A flexible, can-do attitude and desire to learn
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Confidence in presenting to internal or external customers

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
• Higher degree (MSc, MEng or PhD) in Automotive or Electrical Engineering or equivalent
• Functional safety experience and ISO 26262 knowledge
• Systems engineering experience, e.g. development of SysML models
• Experience in developing safety-critical embedded software
