The Role:
We have an immediate requirement for an Gas & Liquid Sweetening Engineering Specialist to join the Downstream Process Engineering Division within the Process & Control Systems Department (P&CSD) based in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. The P&CSD is a leading department that provides specialized and high level technical services and consultations to the operating facilities and other company organizations. Areas of technical support include operation support, research and technology, capital programs support, protection of the environment, knowledge sharing and innovation and talent development. The Downstream Process Engineering Division (DPED) is one of the critical entities under P&CSD that provides support and expertise to company Refining through three key units: Distillation and Treating, Catalytic Conversion and Flare and Relief systems. Engineers who work in the Flare and Relief Systems Unit provide the above to duties to all company existing facilities as well as to new company projects.

The successful candidate shall be assigned to work in the Flare & Relief Systems Unit in the Downstream Process Engineering Division of the Process & Control Systems Department. The candidate will play a leading role in providing technical services and process expertise related to the flare and relief system processes and requirement. Typical job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
1.Safety Relief Disposal and Flare System: Demonstrate in-depth knowledge in flare system design, operations and troubleshooting. Specify design parameters and criteria. Select the appropriate type of a flare system for new facilities. Review project specifications for flare systems prepared by others. Use the appropriate advanced software to model a complex flare piping network.
2. Process Safety Skills: Demonstrate well-developed technical skills in safety system design and analysis. Participate in the development of plant and equipment safety shutdown systems and ensure appropriate documentation is produced. Demonstrate knowledge of details of risk management/ decision and risk analysis and its application to projects and process operations. Recognize and address safety issues for projects and operations.
3.Industry Leadership: Prepare and present technical papers on the area of flare and relief systems and will be a member of industry committees. Have a broad perspective of industry practices through direct work for several major oil and gas companies.
4.Overpressure Protection and Pressure Relief: Candidate shall be able to select the appropriate type of overpressure protection/relief system for the application with input from other disciplines. Can identify overpressure sources and scenarios and determine relief rates and relief conditions out of these scenarios. Capable of using appropriate advanced software to model and design overpressure protection and pressure relief piping systems. The candidate should be capable to specify design parameters and criteria. Review project specifications for overpressure protection/relief systems prepared by others. Utilize industry codes and standards for the design of overpressure protection/relief systems. Conduct flare and relief evaluation studies.
Additionally, the candidate should be able to fulfill the following:
1.Have extensive knowledge and knowhow to provide innovative solutions to and provide mitigation measures for existing problems/concerns in flare systems and flare system’s components (pressure relief valves, relief piping, flare headers, relief from pressure control valves/emergency shutdown systems, knockout drums, staging liquid seals, flare headers, flare tips selection and troubleshooting, pilot ignition systems and selection).
2.Have extensive knowledge in identifying pressure relief valve sizing, selection and troubleshooting performance issues.
3.Have extensive experience in conducting flare and pressure relief system audits and sizing.
4.The candidate should be able to analyze pressure relief and flare systems to identify overpressure scenarios and to resize associated components (pressure relief valves, headers, tips) to sustain new revamp loads.
5.Have proficient knowledge of various flare related technologies and flare vendor’s equipment and products related to his subject specialty area.
6.The candidate should be capable of for identifying, selecting, and recommending a state-of-the-art approach and flare related technologies to support the development of the flare package for new company oil and gas projects.
7.The ability to support company capital programs at different stages from inception to project completion.
8.Proficient knowledge and skill to build and deal with flare simulation programs

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
The successful candidate must have the following experience, competencies and skillsets: B.S. degree in Engineering. An M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Engineering or other advanced professional engineering degree is highly desirable. Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or registration is also highly desirable. Ten years of professional experience, including years as an engineer in responsible charge of technical work in his field of specialty. Recognized by Engineering Services as an expert in his field. Incumbent will have normally achieved industry recognition through activities in professional societies and industrial organizations, such as ASME, ASCE, ASTM, API, NACE, SEI and others. He must have published several papers in technical journals. Work direction skills are a prerequisite in some job applications.
