The Company:
Our client, a major owner/operating company, requires expertise for their LNG mega-project in Western Canada.

This position is open to Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents only.

The Role:
The GIS Analyst will have responsibility:

- To manage spatial data specific to the project team, in accordance with corporate standards. To ensure that project data is attributed with proper metadata, that it is published appropriately to corporate or global data stores, and that it is geodetically sound.

- To utilize the ArcGIS Desktop suite to analyze spatial relationships between data. This includes: gridding, contouring, and 3D visualizations; areal relations between features; statistical trend analyses; and correlations between data sets.

- To present the data and the results of the analyses in the form of maps, charts, graphs, or web services which are cartographically complete, correct, clear, and concise. To create key business maps and produce ad-hoc or on-off maps.

- To identify, create, and improve workflows dealing with spatial data exchanges between G&G software applications. To create scripts, tools, or models where appropriate to enhance the data flow and analysis.

- To promote and share the power and possibilities of GIS technologies with peers and customer groups in support of staff learning and development.

- To promote the correct management/storage of project data associated with GIS

- The GIS Analyst has no budget control or direct reports. (S)He influences budget decisions through recommendations of data, software purchases, and evaluations of new hardware. (S)He must act as the GIS authority for the project team, as well as manage geodetic issues with the Geodetic Specialist. The GIS Analyst has a role as informal leader of Technical Associates providing a steering role to ensure alignment and standardization of workflows within the organization to the group also supporting the project team with regards to geo-spatial data, cartographic standards, and geodetics.

- The GIS Analyst must be familiar with the data holdings and organization to successfully serve his/her project team. A failure in the accuracy or integrity of Geo-Information can lead to millions of dollars of exposure – access delays to the information alone can lead to lost efficiencies and decisions made without complete data. The role is critical to many aspects of the business. The potential risks are as varied as the applications and processes that use GIS and Geo-Information. Data quality, accessibility, and accuracy are all risks especially when used in such activities as survey operations, emergency response, HSE management, production reporting, reserves mapping, prospect management, or play risking. An incorrect map can result in serious HSE incidents in the field when drilling, construction, or engineering staffs rely on the maps and exposure to significant costs associated with erroneous land evaluations.

The GIS Analyst must be familiar with industry standard mapping practices in Western Canada. Including mapping processes for Emergency Response maps and general exploration maps

The GIS Analyst acts as the liaison between the GIS users (s)he supports and the Geomatics team. (S)He provides guidance to the users with regards to GIS resources available. These include ArcSDE, ArcGIS Server, external data web services, custom tools, training or other assistance. (S)He provides valuable feedback about the services the Geomatics team provides.

The GIS Analyst is a key point of contact for other groups working in exploration areas. These include such groups as Survey Operations, Geophysical Operations, Land, NTR or Engineering. The GIS Analyst must facilitate the exchange of spatial data between the project team and these other groups, while ensuring that geodetic integrity is not compromised.
