The Role:
An experienced GNC and Robotics (Guidance, Navigation and Control) engineer is required to join a team of analysts to work on current and future space missions. The job is a stimulating blend of learning and technical work and the successful candidate will gain extensive experience in the design and analysis of space mission GNC, for both small studies and large projects. The department provides the AOCS/GNC engineering analysis and support to a number of large ESA projects currently being conducted.

The job profile requires a candidate with an excellent numerate degree and preferably a second degree in an astronautically or robotics related discipline, with practical experience of localisation (Visual Odometry), and/or mapping, and/or SLAM. Experience in the use of C/C++ is also necessary, whilst mathematical modelling and computer simulations would be highly beneficial.

The initial duties and responsibilities are to support the GNC and Robotics analysis team on new studies whilst gaining effective on-the-job training in vehicles guidance, navigation and control (spacecrafts, Rovers, UAVs, etc). As the experience and skills of the candidate increase over time, they will become an important part of the team and with opportunities to increase their responsibility on projects.
Some of the tasks performed within the group are vehicles and mechanisms control engineering, navigation and guidance; simulator development; mathematical modelling and algorithm development.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
o Good degree or equivalent in a numerate discipline.
o Degree with control and/or estimation and/or numerical optimisation content.
o Practical knowledge of localisation (Visual Odometry), and/or mapping, and/or SLAM
o Demonstrable industry experience of the following (ideally in space or aerospace industry)
o General computer literacy, including MS Office.
o Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
o The ability to interact comfortably within a team environment.
o C/C++
o High-level computer languages (which includes Matlab).

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
o Higher degree with specialisation in robotics
o Higher degree with some relevance to the aerospace industry.
o Mathematical modelling
o Computer simulations
o Control Engineering
o Signal Processing
o Space industry
