The Role:
HSSE Manager – New Build Ships Charters Projects, South Korea

The HSSE Manager for the construction and commissioning phases of the various projects, is the manager of activities related to Health, Safety, Security and Environment, in accordance with the client's guidelines and standards for HSSE.

This position is required to be well aware of the issues in the oil and gas and shipbuilding industries, as well as the challenges facing the company and coordinates strengths, resources, and capabilities to achieve the corporation’s goals and objectives.

This position will have specific role in the client's site assurance organisation being assigned to oversee a number of LNG and oil ship charter ships that are being built in South Korea that will go on charter to the client on delivery.

The HSSE Manager will be the focal point of HSSE activities with the various ship-owners. This position will interface with the Ship Owners to ensure their preparation and implementation plans for HSSE meet the applicable requirements of the time charter party clauses. He/ she will also be required to influence the HSSE activities of the shipyards through the ship-owners, promoting best industry practices and sharing lessons learned.

•Accountable for Contractor Safety Management to ensure project contractual elements mandate effective safe work practices to prevent injury, damage to property, and environmental harm inline with established company goals and objectives.
•Accountable to ensure that project’s HSSE Policy, framework, deliverables and performance measure are defined thorough the construction of the ships. This would include the preparation project required documentation, risk register.
•Accountable to ensure that the project’s HSSE Management System covers all statutory, legal and Company requirements
•Accountable to ensure all accidents and environmental incidents are recorded and investigated with appropriate corrective actions and follow-up to prevent re-occurrence.
•Accountable for emergency preparedness and execution of response plans as well as development of project’s other documents required to be developed during the relevant stages of project.
•Every individual has a duty to both themselves and those around them to ensure that safe practice is adhered to at all times. In addition to any specific accountabilities for HSSE, all employees are accountable for ensuring that they

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
•Related HSSE professional work experience in the maritime industry, preferably with BSc level technical study.
•Experience in all stages of project management, preferably in new vessel (Oil & Gas Industry) construction as it relates HSSE
•Prior experience working in the Far East, specifically South Korea, is essential
•Preference for professional mariner experience.
•Specially trained as a lead auditor.
•Good communication, presentation and soft skills.
•Preference for NEBOSH qualifications (or equivalent).
•It is an expectation that there will be frequent travel locally between the shipyards in South Korea, with overnight stays needed.
