The Company:
Our Client is a major contractor providing consultancy, engineering and project management services to the world's energy, power and process industries. They are the leading Contracting Company to the Oil and Gas Industry in the UK.

The Role:
This role is to support a high profile long term project which presently is at an early stage in development. It is envisaged that the HSSE manager will take a strong lead in the increased diverse scope of the project activities as the contract matures and develop a team to help achieve high performance. The role offers exciting opportunities to develop a strong safety culture in the project and to work with a major operator in setting robust HSSE systems and culture.

The role will be -

Responsible for engaging with the project management team and client to help in delivering high performance in the field of HS&E.

Responsible for facilitating and organising processes across the project to ensure a proactive approach to HSSE including goal setting, planning and implementation of systems.

To provide HSSE Leadership across the various client contracts. The position will support company management on all issues relating to HSSE and includes support for the onshore/offshore construction and engineering teams.

Implementing an assurance strategy to monitor compliance with the HSSE Management Plan, all applicable HSSE legal requirements, Project and Client policies, standards and procedures.

Identifying and communicating HSSE initiatives from other parts of the Client organisation and wider industry.

Providing positive and enthusiastic leadership on HSSE issues.

Key aims and objectives:

Provide visible positive leadership for the project on HSSE issues, promoting the Client Beyond Zero culture and standards, and the adoption of HSSE best practice.

Provide expert advice on current and forthcoming HSE legal requirements.

Promote an enthusiastic HSSE culture that delivers an outstanding commitment to, and engages all employees in, effective delivery and continuous performance improvement.

Lead and provide functional management of HSSE personnel under their control.

Support the development of HSSE personnel.

Prime responsibilities and duties:
The principle position within the project HSSE team, deputizing when required for the Project HSSE Manager.

The Management of the Client HSSE interface and to challenge risk control strategies within the project.

Lead the provision of guidance, support and challenge with respect to HSSE issues.

Maintain positive relationships with both Client & Project Management to ensure their needs are understood and achieved.

Regularly visit locations where work activity is being carried out (including where necessary offshore locations).

Challenge engineering to ensure safety throughout the design stages of the project

Develop and maintain project HSSE interface documents, project plans etc. and monitor these for compliance and improvement.

To influence and drive Project Management HSSE commitment and promote the Beyond Zero culture.

Maintain awareness of Client HSSE requirements, Client Guiding Principles and actively promote adherence with Industry Best Practice.

Identify and raise any areas of HSSE risk to line management.

Assist in the evaluation of, and maintain proactive relationships with, the Supply Chain including HSE advice regarding the selection and performance management of third parties.

Monitor current project work scopes and ensure HSSE support within the project is suitably resourced.

Ensure a robust consultation process with workforce by developing and maintaining strong communication links.

Keep updated with industry best practice for HSSE management and seek to introduce into the project.

Provide HSSE coaching skills to accident and incident investigations.

Implementing and monitoring HSSE Team and Individual development plans.

Support the proactive sharing of good practice across the Project.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Essential NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent
Essential Management skills
IOSH Managing Environment Responsibilities (or similar)

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
Ideally have a working knowledge of technical safety
Ideally degree educated
Ideally Lead Auditor (certified)
