The Role:
Position Overview

The Hull & Moorings Engineer is responsible for the engineering design aspects of the Hull, Turret & Moorings . The position holder provides specialist technical support for FPSO engineering (eg. Hull functionality, structural analysis, mooring systems analysis, etc. and ensures technical decisions are inline with relevant NCS codes and guidance, Industry best practice and meet corporate Standards and Guidelines. Particular focus is on the design integrity and safe operation of the facilities.

What are the core accountabilities? For example, what decisions can the jobholder make? What decisions does the jobholder go to their manager for?

•Ensure the Naval architectural inputs to the BOD are up to date and being implemented
•Ensure the hull, mooring system, geotechnical and metocean design inputs to the BOD are up to date,
•Undertake See to it duties for document review, procurement surveillance and construction support.
•Participate in HAZOPs and other process safety activities during the design phase,
•Participate in Peer Assists, Peer Reviews, HSSE reviews and Value Improving Workshops.
•Be a pro-active member of the Project Team performing any tasks necessary to make the Jordbaer project a success.
•Liaise with Operations to ensure that maintainability issues are addressed in the design phase,
•Work with client's Interface Engineers for Contractor for client to Interfaces ( SURF )
•Work with FPSO Contractors Interface Engineers to ensure that internal interfaces between topsides, Turret and hull systems are adequately controlled.
•Define required contractor design deliverables to allow BG to assess the capabilities and performance of the proposed FPSO concept, (including stability, motions, mooring system, hull fatigue performance and overall compliance with regulatory and class requirements),
•Perform review and cross-checks of contractor hull designs,
•Perform review and cross-checks of contractor mooring system designs,
•Provide Input for Mooring Engineering matters to Turret and Mooring Engineering Lead.
•Provide input to transportation and installation engineering and procedure development.
•Project team point of contact for the application of the following client Standard;
BGA-ENG-FPSO-TS-0002 Floating Production Storage and Offloading Systems


What authority or influence does the jobholder have over people, money, systems, budgets, expertise? N.B. For some areas, the jobholder’s expertise is the main resource.
Will review work performed by Engineering Contractors.
Manage the process for design verification by regulatory body (Class or Flag) or other external consultants.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
•Experience of harsh-water design and construction FPSO projects.
•Experience of FPSO, rig or ship design and operations for Norwegian Flag or waters is essential.
•Have performed technical auditing of ship design offices, ship repair or ship building yards
•Candidate should have experience of Class and statutory certification procedures for tankers or FPSOs.
•Performed tanker or FPSO survey techniques on behalf of owners or regulatory body(Class or Flag)
•Candidate should have experience writing technical specification for ships or FPSOs
•Seagoing experience either as deck officer or marine engineer is preferred.
•Experience of selection and testing of equipment for ships and FPSOs, NDE, materials selection and welding practices.
•Awareness of E&P surface facilities (process through to operations) and with some understanding of interface requirements with subsurface disciplines and commercial to enable incorporation of multi-discipline results into the process engineering elem

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
•BSc / MSc / MEng degree or equivalent in Naval Architecture and/or Marine Structural Engineering.
•Chartered Engineer preferred
•Fluent in written and spoken English as well as knowledge of Scandinavian.
•Potential for international travel.
•Experience of Norwegian floating operations would be most beneficial.
•Able to work extended hours if necessary.
