The Role:
Main Goals and Objective:

Provides in-depth technical knowledge and guidance of vehicle HV battery (PHEV/BEV) systems across the clients vehicle projects, to support and ensure achievement of business objectives and technical development, delivering on time and within budget. To take responsibility for the development and maintenance of the HV battery components to include the but not limited to BJB, cells, cell modules (and controllers), BMS. To also advise and support on such matters as busbar and cooling arrangements to support development from conceptohas to production. To investigate HV battery (and components) related issues, both in the vehicle development cycle and also in the field. The main scope of the role will be development of the HV battery to support vehicle validation including the vehicle interface and interaction.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Overall deliverables
a. Define system electrical architecture, functionality and connectivity related to HV charging systems/components
b. Responsible for packaging of components within area of responsibility
c. Define specific software or hardware functions, develop and validate where required
d. Formulate and maintain robust component/system delivery plans
e. Manage component and system suppliers in order to meet the cost, time and quality targets
f. Conduct system FMEA's where applicable or review of such documentation
g. Support pre-production vehicle builds and feedback learning into the design process
h. Plan and execute all component releases for production
i. Plan and execute component validation activities through simulation, laboratory experiments and on-vehicle tests in various environments world wide
j. Manage component change, including feasibility, cost and timing evaluations
k. Investigate in-field issues, identification of root causes and introduction of remedial actions
l. Expedite Engineering Sign-Off (ESO) for all components
m. Follow company Product Development Processes
n. Complete required technical documentation including specification and test reports
o. Required to work within the boundaries of ISO26262 (with support)

Standard automotive technical abilities
a. Understanding of the typical vehicle development process
b. Worked with vehicle based communication systems (CAN/Flexray/LIN)
c. Is proficient in the use of diagnostic tools to diagnose ‚on network‘ (e.g. Vector, CANoe, CANalyzer).
d. Has an appreciation of the use of calibration tools (INCA/CANape)
e. Understands the premise of vehicle architectures and communication networks and system development
f. Appreciation of component/system diagnostics via CAN/Flexray using various software tools
g. Understands system diagnostic requirements
h. Ability to lead on technical direction working with other departments/Engineers.
p. Provide technical direction to other feature owners.
q. Provide technical input into concepts for future development.

HV technical abilities/requirements
a. Ideally trained to work on HV vehicles (although VW group training will need to be completed)
b. Understanding of vehicle HV battery technology including techniques used in the construction and limitations of assembly.
c. Appreciation of cell chemistry types and current status of cell development
d. Understanding of cell monitoring and battery management system control
e. Power versus Energy factors and different battery types and uses
f. An understanding of battery thermal, electrical & mechanical design limitations to be considered and functions within the battery SW to deal with this limitations.
g. Has an appreciation of the interaction of other vehicle systems on the battery e.g. HVAC, crash safety.
h. Awareness of recyclability and ELV requirements with regards to HV batteries
i. Ideally aware of UN Transport certification requirements which may need to be met
j. Awareness of HV working safety requirements whether on vehicle or within another industry.
k. Appreciation of the following specifications ECE-R100, FMVSS305, ISO6469, ISO12405.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
PERSONAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/ABILITY

Appropriate experience working in the Automotive Industry or related industries.
Experience of process from launch to production.
Strong influencing skills and communication, with a commitment to building positive relationships with other functions, and Group as an outward facing expert.
Ability to share technical knowledge effectively with others
Demonstrable experience of process improvement activities within the specific technology.
A strong engineering grounding and an ability to understand and communicate electronic engineering issues
Good project management, organisation and personal interface skills.
Dynamic and proactive self-starter able to work with minimum of supervision.
German language skills would be advantageous
Good communication skills
Self-motivated
Flexible (able to work extra hours and to travel abroad as and when required)
Supportive of a team approach to development activities
