The Role:
The major function of the HV/LV Switching Engineer is to operative as full Interface support with the construction teams and the Permit group to ensure maximum coordination is performed on a daily basis. This is expected to be for throughout the rest of 2014 & 2015/16. He must have experience in scheduling, Field logistics, Operations, and the Management of construction teams.

Due to the nature of the work it is critical that the candidate will also have some a very extensive Electrical background on ‘switching applications – fully conversant with ‘Sanction for testing’ rules and regulations. A firm background of Permit work philosophies is essential, together with vast experience to be able to administer Electrical safety rules as documented in Oman procedures.
Good, previous practical experience in “hands on” skills in Electrical and Control work is essential.
It is expected that any candidate for this position will have at least 20 years in the Oil & Gas sector experience.

Must be familiar with large power and generation units and High Voltage switchgear / Transformers / UPS / HVAC / HV & LV power distribution. Must have a firm understanding of Hazardous area equipment and regulations, fully conversant with motor management units (switch-gear), and has been operating as a AEP.
Full understanding of all associated test equipment for Hi-pot type testing, loop resistance checks / Mag curves applications.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Perform detailed supervision, to ensure a quality installed scope of work which meets project specifications and Engineer data from civils commence through to Electrical system implementation.
• Responsible for monitoring of Contractors and site teams for competence on all aspects of installation and testing of Electrical equipment to meet the project specifications.
• Application of good communication skills with contractors applying best practices to motivate Construction teams to completion in a timely manner.
• Support the ongoing construction activities by displaying a good awareness of HSE issues and imparting that protocol to the HSE site manager for control of the same.
• Monitor the ongoing works with the contractor and apply PWT procedures.
• Oversee works that may be as a result of MOC decisions etc…
• Liaise with QA/QC Departments on a day to day basis.
• Must be highly skilled in electrical switchgear philosophies.
• Will be subject to an ‘Interview’ in the attendance of the Technical Authority for this discipline. & Must be able to fully satisfy the criteria for safe ‘Switching’ practices.
• Must have extensive experience in the methodology of Lock-out / Tag-out systems.
• Must have experience in formulating and monitoring of permit/switching logs.
• Advise and update the Electrical Superintendent of any technical or scheduling problems or material constraints in a concise and timely manner.
• Solid & structered ‘reporting’ (specifically ‘linked’ to well chosen scopes/areas of work) to be maintained during any ‘Mentoring’ period.
• The incumbent will be expected to support the mentoring program as directed.
• Attend regular site meetings to address the construction teams in generaLParticipate in the Facilities driven HSE Improvement plan.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• Degree in Discipline as noted to this PRF (Is preferred) - but diploma/HNC with 20+ years experience may suffice .
• Minimum of 15/20+ years experience in a similar role.
• Demonstrated ability of multi-task; working on several tasks concurrently
• Good in communication and interpersonal skills.
• Advanced PC knowledge with highly developed skills in the use of software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, together with a working knowledge of MS Access.
• Good interpersonal skills, the ability to react quickly and creatively with ambiguity and diversity in the workplace.
