The Role:
Our Client is a hydro site developer and is currently installing two adjacent sites near Invergarry in
Inverness-shire and is seeking an experienced site engineer who will work alongside the Principal
Contractor and Project Manager to provide direct engineering and construction management expertise
on two design/build construction contract projects.
Reporting to the Operations Manager you will manage the technical civil engineering aspects of both
projects; a 1MW and a 2MW scheme. You will provide technical leadership in the field as well as the
project interface with the Civil Engineering consultancy.

Duties and Key Responsibilities:
􀁸 On a day to day basis report to the Project Manager; manage, monitor, and track day to day
management of the site including construction objectives (scope of work, schedule, budget,
and level of quality) and ensure that the installed/removed quantities specified are tracked on a
daily basis.
􀁸 Advise and interface with the Designers and the Principal contractor’s local teams, to support
the project scheduling, construction activities, commissioning and testing.
􀁸 Review Civil Engineer provided designs to ensure designs are complete and accurate as well
as cost effective, practical and installable. Propose in field solutions to problems arising and
manage their implementation in field to facilitate rapid decision making and deployment to
ensure issues arising do not delay the project delivery.
􀁸 Working with the Project Manager, maintain communication and relationships with the project
team stakeholders.
􀁸 Provide surveyor services across site; setting out, levelling and surveying the site as
appropriate.
􀁸 Review contractor programme and work to ensure that all plant and personnel are managed
effectively to maximise efficiency, minimise cost, minimise risk and optimise project delivery.
􀁸 Confirm that construction tasks are completed in accordance with the project programme,
drawings (or agreed variations), specifications, and the QC Plan and where necessary detect,
identify and report deviations from them
Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
􀁸 In-field experience of delivering hydro projects
􀁸 Appropriate civil engineering qualification preferred or similar
􀁸 An ability to understand technical aspects of hydropower projects and their installation,
predominantly hydropower civil assets; weirs, dams, gates, pipelines, tail race structures etc.
􀁸 A good working understanding of hydropower civil installations, applications, merits and
drawbacks along with an appreciation of the environmental and regulatory issues that
surround hydropower.
􀁸 Demonstrate a good understanding of project management, including regular reporting,
managing time, cost, and quality.
Personal Attributes and Other Requirements
􀁸 Would be expected to have a relevant engineering degree, though this isn’t essential if you
can demonstrate equivalent skills have been developed through other means
􀁸 A cool head in challenging situations, along with the ability to oversee several projects at
different stages, and know where to focus attention.
􀁸 AutoCAD knowledge would also be needed.
􀁸 You will need to have a practical “hands on” approach, be well organised and have excellent
communication skills.
