The Role:
Job Title Industrial Hygienist
Direct Supervisor Industrial Hygiene Head

1 Job Purpose: Provide SHE functional support for industrial hygiene compliance relating to
the clients Health Risk Assessment procedure for activities associated with the clients
Barzan On-shore, Community, Drilling, Administrative, and Offshore Facilities. Conduct
and analyze results of personal and area noise, heat stress, radiation, and chemical
monitoring and inspections at sites subject to health regulations. Conduct ergonomic
assessments of work stations and field operations. Distribute information and explain
industrial hygiene procedures and regulations to employees, community members, and
contractors; prepare industrial hygiene reports; and perform related duties as required.
Coordinate medical surveillance relating to job classification and exposure potential in the
workplace. In particular, coordinate audiograms and medical surveillance pertaining to
respirator usage.

Key Result Areas:
1) Personnel Monitoring:
a) Conduct monitoring in accordance with the the clients Exposure Assessment
Strategy (EAS)
b) Record data in accordance with industrial hygiene report writing format.
c) Update the clients Exposure Assessment Strategy in accordance with monitoring
d) Update the clients Barzan Health Risk Assessment as new information becomes
2) Respiratory Protection and Hearing Conservation
a) Perform respirator fit testing using the clients procedures.
b) Administer annual hearing tests in accordance with the clients Hearing
Conservation Procedure.
c) Document fit tests in accordance with the clients Respiratory Protection
d) Present respiratory protection and hearing conservation training.
3) Hazard Communication:
a) Prepare an inventory of hazardous materials of all the process units.
b) Reconcile material safety data sheets for each hazardous material from the unit
c) Prepare hazard communication training according to the inventory of hazardous
materials for each area.
d) Present heat stress prevention training.
4) Health Inspections:
a) Perform routine health inspection at food service facilities within the clients
operations, camps, and AI Khor facilities
b) Prepare written reports of inspections.
c) Periodically inspect potable water operations
5) Industrial Hygiene Inspections:
a) Perform routine industrial hygiene walk-through inspections at offshore production
platforms, drilling rigs, and process areas.
b) Prepare written reports of the inspections.
6) Ergonomic Evaluations:
a) Perform office ergonomic evaluations and make recommendations.
b) Perform ergonomic evaluations of tasks and make recommendations.
c) Prepare written reports of the evaluation.
d) Prepare Ergonomic Training.
7) Additional:
a) Industrial Hygiene Monitoring Equipment:
i) Calibration of the industrial hygiene monitoring equipment, keep records of
equipment periodical inspections I calibrations.
ii) Maintain the monitoring equipment in good working state at all times.
iii) Raise purchase requisition request as needed.
b) Provides 24 hour 'on-call' technical/ field support for industrial hygiene services.
c) Carries out other and similar duties at the request of the industrial hygiene head.

4 Operating Environment, Framework and Boundaries:
• This is a key role for the worker health compliance, fitness for duty and worker safety.
Directly responsible for personnel monitoring and reporting of results. Interacts with
the medical department directly pertaining to exposure potential situations, and
respiratory protection matters.
• Has a degree of flexibility in the performance of this function; receives general direction
from superior.
• Has a strong internal customer focus and plays a key part in maintaining the safety of
workers in operating units and construction.
• Operates within defined procedures, but job holder must determine how best to
achieve short term targets. Works within a defined reporting framework.

5 Communications and Working Relationships:
• Regular meetings with immediate supervisor (Head of Industrial Hygiene) to discuss
operational matters and work priorities.
• Regular internal contact with the medical department, operation's superintendents,
foremen, supervisors and other personnel to provide advice on monitoring issues.
• Occasional external contacts with RLIC, MOE, Qatar Gas, State Supreme Council for

• Works within established policies and standards. Maintains and implements monitoring
• Undertakes investigations and problem solving of a routine nature.
• Must determine priorities and ensure availability of key resources. Assumes a proactive
role, determining solutions to potential problems.
• Challenges of this position lie in maintaining consistency of monitoring quality,
scheduling workers for medical evaluations and taking a role in providing solutions to
technical/ operational problems.
• Work requires good planning, influencing and people-management skills.

7 Decision Making Authority and Responsibility:
• Plans and prioritizes own work within agreed upon work programs .
• Advises internal client user departments on industrial hygiene and health issues and
monitors adherence.
• Operates within agreed program, plans and budgets and may contribute to the
development on these plans.
• Has some discretion in determining priorities, how monitoring will be carried out, what
materials and services may be requisitioned to accomplish assigned tasks.

8 Knowledge Skills and Experience:
• Minimum 3-years of working experience in oil and gas, petrochemical, fertilizer and/or
chemical industry.
• Diploma of Industrial Hygiene, Safety, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Science, or
• Familiar with general health and industrial hygiene aspects of a large industrial setting
and associated utilities.
• Ability to read and understand P&!Ds .
• Ability to work effectively with multiple levels of operation and maintenance
representatives and maintain good communication channels.
• Ability to generate internal reports with good English grammar skills .
• Knowledge of basic science including algebra, physics, toxicology, and biology .
• Skilled at instrumentation including real time monitoring equipment.
• Knowledge of basic record-keeping practices and basic research techniques .
• Computer literate with good knowledge of SAP and business applications e.g. Excel.
• Good leadership and interpersonal skills and ability to work as team leader.

• 60% office and laboratory work for equipment maintenance and calibration, sample
preparation, and record keeping and report preparation. Approximately 40% outdoor
working in hot weather conditions while monitoring, collecting samples, or inspecting.
Will be expected to carry portable equipment and drive company vehicles.
