The Role:
We are looking for an experienced Injury Case Manager to join a world class oil and gas project. The successful candidate will become a key member of the project health team, reporting directly to the Security Superintendent. The Injury Case Manager must possess the skills to provide injury case management support to the company and project implementation contractors and their subcontractors.

The role ensures all aspects of project injury case management remain effective, providing information on injury and illness treatment while still maintaining patient medical confidentiality. The Injury Case Manager will work closely with the site HSE team by providing early notification of injury/illness treatment to enable timely incident investigation response. A key feature of the role is the ability to routinely deliver high performance results in a demanding work environment, to ensure that an effective and coordinated approach is deployed.



Key Job Responsibilities

40%
• Overall responsibility for the implementation of the project Downstream fitness for duty and injury management system procedures and plans, in order to facilitate safe and early return to work (RTW) of injured personnel who work for the company and joint venture parent companies, vendors and consultants contracted to the JV and/or companies contracted to the project operations for specific work packages.
• Interface with relevant site injury management coordinators and Health and Safety professionals to ensure consistency in the management of injured personnel
• Ensure effective communication between key parties by acting as contact point for injury management systems and procedures
• Streamline the injury management process (particularly for more complex and/or high risk cases) to prevent duplication of effort
• Facilitate workers’ compensation and injury management training programs including, toolbox talks
• Conduct confidential surveys of injured workers to assess whether the management of their RTW meets company standards
• Ensure that all personnel who have received treatment for a work related injury are re-assessed by the project Medical Team prior to departing site (specifically within 24-hours of the injured person departure)
• Provides early notification to site management and project Chief Medical Officer for all injury/illness case related injuries and site evacuations
• Maintain database of relevant site injury management coordinators and preferred providers for company, JV and parent companies.
• Other reasonable duties as directed.

• Provide routine (as required) status reports to project management on all lost time/days away from work cases
• Maintain a data base of available, modified and alternative duties

• Monitor the effectiveness of RTW plans
• Conduct audits of the injury management systems and procedures as required

• Accompany Injured Personnel to the Company Medical Facility and, with the consent of the person, during the consultation.
• Complete an Injury or Illness Report Form. Document all injuries and illnesses.
• Immediately advise the relevant site injury management contact of any Injured Personnel.
• Advise Company HSS Manager and Company Injury Management Coordinator (IMC) of all injuries
• Immediately forward any medical certificates/reports to the Company IMC and relevant site injury management contact.
• Provide daily updates to the Company IMC of all Injured Personnel cases.
• If Injured Personnel require evacuation, provide details of the injured worker, including flight times (i.e.; when arriving at the Airport), and other relevant details to ensure the safe transition from site to Perth for medical attention. Assist the injured worker on site to make preparations for travel. This may include packing certain required items from the injured workers room, assisting with contacting Next of Kin and advising the Supervisor regarding the evacuation. If the Injured worker is not being transported to the airport by ambulance, make arrangements to ensure safe and comfortable transfer to the airport on site.
• Advise Site Travel Administrators/Deployment Team and the relevant site injury management contact of the requirement for a flight and or accommodation.
• Advise the Medical Practitioner at the Company Medical Facility of the relevant preferred Injury Management Provider (as per the relevant site injury management contact). Provide contact details to facilitate handover of care and medical arrangements in Perth.
• Review compliance of Injured Personnel with designated alternative/restricted duties on a daily basis. Discuss any concerns raised with the Supervisor and negotiate a solution with both parties. Provide daily progress reports to the Supervisor on all personnel on alternative/restricted duties. Report, as soon as practicable, any concerns or issues that arise regarding the injury management of any person on a RTW Program.
• If Injured Personnel choose their own Medical Practitioner after initially being assessed by the Medical Practitioner on site, provide contact details of the injured or ill person’s chosen Medical Practitioner to the relevant site injury management contact.
• Ensure that appropriate logistical management is in place for persons requiring further treatment. Consideration shall be given to notifying medical facilities of the patient’s requirements; notifying patient’s next of kin; accommodation close to medical facilities (if required); transportation to and from medical facilities (if required); and food and drink if required.
• Assist in the completion of workers compensation forms on site and work with the relevant off island injury management contact to ensure these are submitted within 5 days of being completed.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• Sound knowledge, experience and understanding of workers’ compensation claims/case management, injury management and return to work processes and associated WA legislation
• High-level interpersonal skills, including written and oral communication, ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of stakeholders and establish and maintain effective networks
• Analytical and problem solving skills and the ability to resolve disputes by adopting standard practices and/or developing new approaches consistent with the project objectives
• Demonstrated investigative and research ability with the capacity to demonstrate initiative and innovation and work within legislative timeframes
• Working knowledge of medical and legal terminology and the ability to apply this knowledge in the management of workers’ compensation claims/cases.
