The Role:
The Instrument / Automation Engineer will participate in a team of disciplined engineers with responsibility for ensuring the safe and efficient operations of Electrical, Control and Instrument systems and equipment. The position requires the identification, prioritisation and planning of control system hardware and software maintenance, modification and reliability improvement activities according to their safety and operational criticality. The position will have accountabilities for control system technical discipline issues including benchmarking performance and developing improvements to equipment to increase reliability, and mitigation against system obsolescence. The position requires the preparation of system change documentation and independent performance of complex technical tasks & activities on the control systems. It also requires management of system support contracts with 3rd party vendors and technical support & mentoring for offshore/onshore based maintenance technicians.

Key Duties:

• Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with the required technical standards, processes and procedures and operating effectively and in compliance with relevant legislation, the Facility Safety Case and company regulations and procedures.
• Ensure assigned Control System technical activities are focussed to delivering safe production performance with maximum reliability.
• Ensure costs are controlled and managed in order to achieve business goals by monitoring contracts performance within the group and supporting the building of the budgets.
• Provide technical leadership to technician groups and foster effective teamwork in completing technical activities.
• Provide discipline specialist input into multi-discipline Engineering projects, both small and large, and provide input into HAZOP and Hazard review processes
• Develop and implement minor plant modifications for offshore and onshore sites in line with Facilities Change procedure
• Actively participate in the Electrical, Control and Instrumentation Engineering team to ensure that the production and maintenance systems are integrated and are operating effectively in accordance with the Production Unit Business Plan and are operating safely and efficiently in accordance with management systems. Ensure continuous improvement of technical and business systems are applied
• Foster effective teamwork in order to motivate staff and help establish a work environment / climate, work systems and practices that maximise opportunities for staff to perform well, achieve job satisfaction and contribute effectively to the Corporation. This includes ensuring all recruitment, training and performance assessments are in place and being carried out effectively.
• Develop, maintain and manage networks and relationships with key personnel including those from the Operations Team, other operational Sites and regulatory bodies
• Provide discipline input into monthly reliability and maintenance reporting benchmarking equipment and system performance
• Management of assigned contracts within group.
• Participate in defining group priorities in conjunction with the Systems Engineering supervisor.
• Participate in the Development of the annual budget forecast for Control and Instrumentation OPEX and CAPEX projects

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• Extensive design, construction, commissioning & operational experience of process control and automation systems, including DCS, PLC & SCADA.
• Experience in Oil & Gas, Chemical or other process industry, preferably including offshore experience.
• Extensive knowledge & experience of designing, configuring, programming, modifying and commissioning relevant DCS systems (Emerson Provox offshore/Bailey Infi 90 onshore).
• Extensive knowledge & experience of designing, configuring, programming, modifying and commissioning Schneider Modicon range of PLCs and HMI.
• Knowledge & experience of Matrikon ‘Imac’ alarm management system.
• Knowledge & experience of Tricon TMR PLC systems desirable.
• Good general knowledge of configuring, maintaining and fault-finding serial communications protocols & Ethernet networks.
• Strong leadership skills.
• The ability to work with an interdisciplinary team under minimal supervision.
• Strong communication & influencing skills.
