The Company:
A major operator is seeking a 12+ months contract Instrument Engineer - Wellhead Platform based in Houston, Texas. The project is in transition from Phase 3 to Phase 4. SPECIAL CONSIDERATION:Assignment will initially be based in Houston during Detailed Engineering, and will transition to Okpo, Korea during the fabrication phase. The Role:
The Instrument Engineer will be responsible for:
• Lead Instrument design of the WHP.
• Responsible for the design, specification, review and approval of field instrumentation and final control elements (e.g., control valves).
• Application of contained in the manual and use of instrumentation design software (e.g., SmartPlant Instrumentation).
• Assessment of instrumentation reliability issues.
• Provide support in design, constructability, operability and reliability of the instrument systems associated with the facilities.
• Ensure that an inherent safe design is obtained.
• Assist with constructability reviews and advise on ways to improve the design for ease of maintenance and constructability.
• Participate with other members of the project team in the preparation of key project documents such as Project Execution Plans.
• Be a member of the multi-discipline team responsible for developing detailed engineering deliverables.
• Monitor EPCI contractors' work to ensure compliance with project requirements.
• Support costs estimates, schedule reviews, and VIPs as required.
• Apply principles and demonstrate behaviors.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Technical Expertise:
• This position requires a BS degree in Engineering or equivalent and 5+ years experience in design and sizing of field instrumentation.
• 5+ yrs experience in instrumentation design and installation for Oil and Gas facilities is required.
• Strong knowledge of field instrumentation and final control elements (e.g. control valves).
• Good understanding of instrumentation databases, documentation, design tools (e.g. SmartPlant Instrumentation) and control valve sizing and diagnostic software.
• Knowledgable of industry practices and standards applicable to field instrumentation in the oil and gas industry (e.g. API, ISA, NEMA, IEC, etc.).
• Good multi-discipline working knowledge of offshore oil and gas design practices is preferred.

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
• Safety-in-Design & Reliability:Experience is needed.
• Good understanding of safe design, fabrication and installation practices.
• Experience with basic and detailed engineering design.
• HAZID / HAZOP experiences desirable.

Project Management:
• Ability to generate cost estimates, schedule reviews, and appropriate use of VIPs.
• Ability to work in multi-discipline teams, including contractors, through conceptual, FEED, detailed design and construction.
