The Role:
JOB TITLE: IP Designer
To provide the expert theoretical and practical capability to be aware of and to understand in detail the latest developments in the relevant vehicle systems and to select and design appropriate systems and components into the Company’s products.
Reports to a Senior Engineer, who reports to the Functional Manager.
Liaises with all levels in the business, up to Senior Manager, particularly within Purchasing, Logistics, Finance
and Manufacturing, and with Suppliers/Contract Houses at all levels.
1. Responsible for design of components/systems which, when introduced into production, are safe, legal and otherwise are fit, (including satisfying product liability requirements) and represents the best compromise between company and customer needs.
2. Investigate, validate and verify, for release into production, design proposals relating to components in their area of responsibility.
3. Accountable for timely parts release required to achieve timely vehicle launch to quality and cost and timing using Company procedures and systems.
4. Undertake Layout and Detail investigations to assist in the solving of design concerns and modify or prepare new drawings/ geometry and designs as requested using Catia V5 and LCA CAD/ Drafting systems.
5. Ensure that Company CAD & Drafting Standards and release procedures are met.
6. Ensure tolerance analysis for all designs/ geometry is executed and specifications fully defined including group Reference Point System.
7. Execute assignments to meet timing commitments.
Operates within an agreed vehicle feature/system budget
Accountable for identifying any issue or risk affecting feature/ system delivery, for recommending remedial action, for ensuring this is visible and understood by the Senior Engineer or Functional manager and the Project Manager and to escalate the issue until appropriate action is taken.
Appropriate Engineering qualification and trained in CATIA V5, with a minimum of 2,000 user hours.
3 years experience within the automotive industry, within a similar design role
