The Role:
Assist the Senior Instrument Engineer in managing the field instrumentation maintenance and supporting documentation to the standards of the petrochemical industry. Providing support to operations, technology and project engineering to ensure high instrumentation reliability and integrity.. The role will be a rotational position, 28/28 to Geoje, South Korea.


1.Plan and conduct maintenance on plant field instrumentation to meet high on stream availability, reliability and plant integrity.
2. Reviews and issues work orders and determine maintenance and repairs priorities in consultation with the Operations and Maintenance Coordinator.
3. Participate in reliability studies and determine failure modes of instrumentation bad actors and
make recommendation to Operation and Technology department to enhance plant reliability, thus performing continuous search for improvements to existing installation.
4. Providing technical supports and advice to other engineering disciplines, operation and technology in the diagnosis and investigation on plant problems.
5. Advise Senior Field Instrumentation Engineer on personnel development and recruitment issues for local staff and perform yearly staff appraisal of his/her subordinates.
6. Ensure that safe working practices and conditions are adhered to at all times. Ensures that maintenance work is carried out in a safe manner and strictly adhering with Company HSSE system and procedures along with good housekeeping practices. Participates in regular safety and housekeeping audits and ensure actions are diligently implemented.
7. Maintaining and continuously updating the computerised maintenance management system SAP for recording of instrument maintenance data, creating and maintaining an efficient maintenance environment. Ensures all maintenance documentation is completed correctly, particularly the maintenance log type of fault, works carried out and time, labour and materials used in SAP.
8. Assist in maintaining up to date documentation and data bases of Instrument data sheets, loop diagrams and instrument circuit diagrams using the smartplant and Cornerstone retrieval.
9. Assist in planning and organizing instrument field activities during major shutdown. Responsible for the development of preventive and routine maintenance schedules, ensuring that all maintenance is carried out during planned shutdowns and that all standby units are fully operational.
10. Implement and record optimum IPF testing frequencies, based on IPF classification results and schedules.
11. Participate in IPF classification, HAZOP, RCM and root cause analysis sessions and implement the instrumentation issues resulting from these sessions.
12. Optimize the utilization of spare parts and material replacement stocking for field instrumentation. Reviews inventories of spare parts and materials in SAP to ensure availability, issues and prepares purchase requisitions for spare parts according to the Company's Procedures.
13. Management of maintenance services contracts with equipment vendors and specialized skilled manpower suppliers.
14. Keep abreast with development in technology in the field of Instrumentation, continuously searching for Best Practices in field maintenance.
15. Ensure maintenance staff is functionally trained to meet safe and professional working standards.
16. Supervises the activities of the Instrument Maintenance Technicians according to Company's Maintenance procedures and schedules and ensures that work objectives and programs are implemented.
17. Organise sufficient instrumentation duty coverage to ensure that rectification of any instrument fault or nuisance failure should be remedied without delays.
18. Control the budgets and maintenance schedules for Field Instrumentation.
19. Initiates and implements necessary instrument modifications in line with operational requirement and according to company policy and standards.

•Applying Shell HSE Policies & Management System Requirements;
•Supporting/ Participating in Emergency Drills and Exercises as required;
•Reporting all Accidents/ Incidents and Unsafe Acts/ Conditions in a timely manner.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
1. Diploma or Degree in electrical, electronic or instrument engineering with at least 10 years working experience in field instrumentation in a Petrochemical or Oil and Gas Refinery environment.
2. In depth knowledge and skill of Conventional Instrument maintenance and repair.
3. In depth knowledge and skill of IPF methodology and IPF testing practices.
4. Conversant with the full integration of control system with IPS and other instrument sub systems.
5. Applicant should be technically conversant with process controls with proven skills and should have proven exposure to modern refinery systems and business processes.
6. Good team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills across all levels of the organization. The ability to work across the multi cultural society of Malaysia.

•Typical failure modes and troubleshooting procedures; root cause analysis (RCA) basics
•Knowledge of Mechanical engineering;
•Mechanical equipment installation, adjustment, modification and repair methods;
•IT/ SAP PM systems, as it applies to the requirements of the position;
