The Role:
Instrument Technician The Overview
12 Hour shift working pattern
Working on a complex automated gas processing facility, the job holder will be responsible for performing routine and breakdown maintenance activities on control and instrumentation systems in order to achieve high levels of availability for production and safety critical equipment.
The job holder will perform breakdown maintenance on control and instrumentation systems. Control systems include Emergency Shutdown, Fire and Gas, Distributed Control and Programmable Logic Controllers. Instrumentation systems include those for the measurement of level, pressure, temperature, flow, vibration and speed. The job holder will be required to quickly diagnose faults and effect repairs to support continuing gas production.
The job holder will also perform routine maintenance on all of the above equipment in accordance with the company maintenance management system. This will include routine calibration, inspection and testing.
The job holder will work with the mechanical and electrical disciplines to achieve an effective multi- discipline approach to minimising equipment downtime.
Typical activities to be planned and executed are the testing of safety critical systems, routine calibrations on the company fiscal metering systems and 'Ex' inspections and maintenance on instrumentation used in hazardous areas. Accurate record keeping is vital to ensure compliance with the requirements of the regulator.
The job holder will be required to work safely at all times and to supervise the activities of others to ensure their safety. This will be achieved through holding 'Performing Authority' status as part of the company safe systems of work and permit to work systems.
Recognised apprenticeship
Higher National Certificate in engineering
Experience in the oil and gas, petrochemical, nuclear or manufacturing industries
Proven track record in fault finding on complex systems
Experienced in the execution of routine maintenance activities and accurate record keeping.
