The Role:
Job Description:
The Instrumentation and Controls Engineer is responsible for gathering and analyzing technical data used to prepare control systems designs that include:
• Control philosophy and narratives
• Instrumentation Index
• I/O index
• Instrument data sheets
• Loop diagrams
• Cause/effect diagrams

Duties and responsibilities
• Provides expertise in control systems to ensure a safe, operable design, proper use of new technology, and the best selection and use of instruments, systems and computer hardware and software
• Able to apply standard practices to the development of instrumentation and control design drawings
• Able to evaluate equipment and software, prepare specifications, analyse bids and recommends suppliers.
• Knowledgeable in using PC-based design programs
• Able to assist project leaders with schedules, cost estimates and justifications
• Participates in preparation of operating and maintenance procedures, manuals, training
• Checks installations for conformance to design and standards and verifies completeness

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical or Electrical Engineering and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience is required.
• EIT certification desired, PE preferred
• Excellent understanding of DCS/PLC hardware and wiring design
• Familiarity and knowledge of P&ID's, PFD's, loop diagram and NEC/ISA standards
• Familiarity with the Hazop/LOPA process
• Application of ISA 84/IEC 61511 specification to safety system design, evaluation, testing and commissioning
• Working knowledge of process field instrumentation and process analyzers
