The Company:

Our client, a major power company, has an immediate need for a permanent Intermediate Electrical/Instrumentation & Controls Engineer in Alberta facilities.

The Role:
Under the direction and leadership of the Engineering Team Leader, the Intermediate Electrical/Instrumentation & Controls Engineer is responsible on a scheduled or call-in basis, for all aspects of planning, designing, and installing upgrades and additions to electrical systems (controls, metering, instrumentation, generators, motors, transformers, etc) in accordance with station policies and relevant government standards and codes.

Purpose and accountabilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

Specific responsibilities include:

• Developing proposals and business cases for capital improvements
• Experience in the design and construction of electrical and I&C systems
• Participate in the site Metering Committee
• Developing standards to facilitate continuous improvement
• Managing the work of independent contractors to ensure outcomes are consistent with contracted services
• Work as a team member to provide solutions to problems
• Providing technical and troubleshooting support to Maintenance/Operations groups.
• Provide mentorship to Junior Engineers, and Engineers in Training (EIT’s)
• Work in a safe and effective manner by adhering to all safety policies and procedures
• Take responsibility and make decisions to see the job to completion within time demands
• Provide information on equipment/system problems to Team Leader and provide updates as required
• Demonstrate flexibility when tasks are reassigned or altered
• Sourcing and ordering tools, materials and parts required to complete work assignments
• Prepare requisitions for ordering of material and services, following proper procedures
• Assist in training and development of other Cogen personnel where expertise is deemed applicable
• Support health, safety and environmental programs in the Cogen by participating in safety initiatives, such as shop area or tool inspections and monthly safety meetings
• Assist with the planning and execution of maintenance outages

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

• Graduation from a recognized university in Electrical Engineering and registration or eligible for registration with APEGGA as a Professional Engineer.
• Minimum five years experience since graduation preferably in power stations, large industrial facilities or refineries.
• Experience in the maintenance of gas and/or steam turbine-generators and heat recovery steam generators as well as Knowledge of control systems is desirable is desirable.
• Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
• Demonstrable ability to plan, organize and implement activities successfully.
• Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and presentation).
• Strong interpersonal, problem solving, leadership and communication skills required to work in a team environment.
• Experience in the design and construction of electrical and control systems.
• Proven, successful project management experience.
