The Role:
• Single Point of Accountability (SPA) on site for responding /coordinating all matters related to welding and metallurgical aspects of materials
• Single Point of Contact (SPC) / Interface at site for jackets & piles and subsea regarding:
o Technical queries and other welding/metallurgical issues
o Coordination with BP Lead Materials & Welding Engineer for resolution of welding and materials issues
• Ability to perform effectively in a team environment, inclusive of demonstrating collaborative, cooperative, flexible, adaptable, respectful, and tactful personal characteristics
• Excellent work and personal ethics that include trustworthiness, commitment, and empathy
• Confident, creative, and proactive approach to addressing welding and material-related issues
• Effectively balance efforts and decisions around what is truly important and what is critical
• Competent in effectively communicating in both verbal and written English
• Proficient in the use of MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint
• High level of technical expertise in comprehending and interpreting engineering & construction specifications, reports, drawings, and other technical documents
• Practical knowledge of mechanical properties and welding metallurgies for carbon steel, various alloys and cladding materials
• Practical knowledge of quality assurance & control systems and destructive/non-destructive methods and equipment

Experience

Demonstrable track record of experience and accountabilities, relevant to the job description described herein, gained on similar large-scale offshore oil & gas projects with an emphasis on jackets and piles:
• Significant leading roles in developing/applying welding procedures and specifications for structural and pressure piping, inclusive of clad piping
• Previous significant experience with procedure development, consumables, and welding & inspection processes for joining thick section nickel alloy clad piping components
• Significant experience with the development, application, and interpretation of destructive/non-destructive testing techniques and equipment
• Experience with system controls for welding equipment
• Substantial experience with effectively interfacing and working together with owner/ contractor welding and quality control experts
• Numerous examples of successful interaction and participation on high-impact teams

Responsibilities

• Assist/support the Construction Manager and Quality Control & Engineering Leads to achieve contract objectives
• Demonstrate a keen awareness and consistent behaviour regarding the protection of BP’s company reputation and project technical & commercial interests
• Demonstrate HSE leadership by actively engaging the BP site team and construction contractors with actions that contribute to delivering on BP’s HSE expectations, specifically with respect to cutting, welding, and joining processes
• Liaise daily with the site Quality Lead to ensure the proper interpretation of specifications and that all project technical requirements are being adequately monitored
• Actively monitor fit-up, welding and related fabrication/assembly activities first-hand to ensure satisfactory execution in accordance with the project technical documents
• Actively monitor first-hand the destructive testing/ non-destructive examination (inclusive of Phased Array UT) of welded components and testing of welding personnel to ensure satisfactory execution in accordance with the established welding procedures, restrictions, and project standards
• Liaise with BP Lead Materials & Welding Engineer to ensure timely approval of submitted requests
• Take accountability for making certain welding-related decisions at site, as delegated by BP Lead Materials & Welding |Engineer and authorized by the Construction Manager
• Ensure that welding and testing-related Action Items are addressed/closed in a timely manner
• Develop preliminary responses to Site Engineering Queries (SEQ’s) and coordinate the timely response and close-out from engineering and from BP technical authorities
• Review welding techniques, procedures, and usage of welding equipment, working in close association with the contractor, to resolve problems with material joining & fabrication of metals, utilizing knowledge of project/contractor specifications, properties and characteristics of metals and metal alloys, and engineering principles
• Critically review and accept appropriate contractor welding and NDE-related documents
• Assist with the assessment and resolution of non-conformances
• Demonstrate a commitment to the development and/or mentoring of Azerbaijani nationals who are working on site in engineering, quality, and fabrication positions
• Demonstrate basic skill and character prerequisites on an on-going basis•

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• Recognized University Degree in Mechanical, Metallurgical or Welding Engineering

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
• Chartered or Licensed Professional Engineer
• Advanced degree in a related material-related technology
• Specialised training in welding technology qualifying for the International Institute of Welding (IIW) International Welding Engineer (IWE/EWE) diploma
