The Company:
Our Client is a world leading Automotive OEM which is responsible for some of the most iconic 4x4's & Sports Cars produced. Due to the huge demand for current models and substantial investment in future projects there is a requirement for more resources across the business in engineering & manufacturing on a contract basis.

The Role:
Lead Assembly Process Engineer
Our client has an opportunity for a high calibre and experienced Manufacturing Engineer to join their new Powertrain Manufacturing Engineering team as a Lead Engineer. The team is developing to support future engine developments in support of our client’s range of vehicles. You will be responsible for developing our new, technologically advanced power train assembly facilities that are currently under design and manufacture to support our client’s global powertrain initiatives. The Power Train Manufacturing Engineering (PTME) department are responsible for the development and introduction of new and modified processes and facilities associated with new model introductions and model year changes, within Assembly & Test. You will be a key part of the Assembly team, working closely with Product Development Engineers, Facility vendors and Tooling Suppliers to ensure that component and whole engine designs meet world class quality and efficiency standards.

• You will utilise your knowledge to develop and implement assembly and test processes and facilities to deliver the safety, quality delivery and cost objectives.
The overall responsibility of this role is to lead a team of engineers responsible for the planning and implementation of new and major changes to engine manufacturing assembly and test facilities.
With particular emphasis on the following:
• Planning, developing and implementation of assembly and test processes and facilities.
• Provide feasibility statements for Product Development designs to suit manufacturing build requirements.
• Ensure robust process quality planning including build simulations and FMEA’s
• Support virtual build events raising and championing issues where appropriate.
• Support of physical builds at workshop, pilot build and Manufacturing Plant locations, raising and managing issues where appropriate.
• Prepare, issue and evaluate supplier ‘Request for Quotations’
• Assembly process & equipment verification at suppliers and at home manufacturing facility.
• Support management activities through development and monitoring of timing plans
• Support new model planning through development of process estimates against study requests
• Ensure adherence to company and departmental operating processes and policies
• Manage technical issues, offering guidance to the team and escalating where appropriate
• Achieve Equipment Capability targets of all new & modified facilities, including OPR, MTTR, MTBF
• Support Component Programme Management Teams (CPMT)
Whitley & Wolverhampton, other global client sites as required

Essential Experience & Qualifications:
1) Experience in specifying, delivering and launching assembly line facilities and in-line test equipment (automated assembly cells, rundown machines, manual workstations)
2) Extensive Project management experience of delivering new or modified equipment into a production facility.
3) Engineering qualification - HNC or above. Preferably Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering.

Skills, experience and qualifications required:
• Good IT skills and awareness of Process Authoring Tool (GSPAS), simulation and virtual toolsets i.e. Digital-buck, Process Simulate and CATIA V5, Byteworx’s and Sciemetric Qualityworx
• Good knowledge of MS Office Applications (PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Project).
• Candidates should be self-motivated with sound leadership and communication skills.
• Knowledge, experience and understanding of assembly processes and equipment.
• Automated assembly and rundown cells, manual assembly workstations, in-process test equipment and ability to analyse and interpret performance data output from those facilities.
• Ability to work within cross-functional teams and flexibility to support projects from early concepts to Launch at any of our clients sites.
• Knowledge and experience of PCDS (or similar) and LQOS deliverables and timing
• Ideally understanding of or clients Facility Procurement and H&S procedures
• Previous experience of facility Installation, commissioning and product Launch.
• Facility system validation and handover to Manufacturing.
• A good understanding of engineering including the ability to review engineering drawings.
• Ideally, educated to Degree level in Manufacturing Systems or a similar engineering discipline. Candidates with HNC / HND and the relevant experience would be considered.

Desirable Experience & Qualifications:
Experience of leading a team of engineers to deliver a project.
Ability to travel to global locations to support our client’s expansion.
Foreign languages are also an advantage, German, Italian or Chinese.
