Lead Civil Engineer and Technical Authority (TA)

Report to: BP Onshore Engineering Manager

CONTEXT
Multi billion dollar development consisting of a series of deepwater gas and condensate discoveries located in the Mediterranean.

An opportunity has arisen for a Lead Civil Engineer to work in the Onshore Engineering Team. The Project is expected to be initially located in the London area during the front end design and detailed engineering phases before relocating to the site near Alexandria, Egypt during Project construction and commissioning.
Role Synopsis:
The scope of this role includes the following major civil works:
• Site preparation - e.g. site clearance and levelling, excavation, earthworks
• Infrastructure provision - e.g. roads, power supply, water supply, water treatment
• Drainage facilities
• Security fencing
• Buildings, e.g. control room, sub-stations, offices, warehousing/stores
• Structures and foundations - including equipment supports, pipe racks, towers etc.
Key Accountabilities:
• Provide technical assurance and oversight for the design and construction of the civil and structural engineering works
• Implementation of Major Project Common Practices Engineering and Quality Management expectations within discipline area
• Oversee engineering quality performance during FEED and Detailed Design for Civil and Structural discipline
• Ensure contractors comply with client safety policies and standards and ensure that the necessary requirements of client safety reviews are met during the design process
• Audit and monitor the Project’s Contractors’ quality management systems.
• Technically evaluate requests for exceptions/deviations to relevant client Engineering Technical Practice standards and specifications and advise the Engineering Team Leader on technical integrity issues
• Act as focal point for the project external audits related to civil related construction and commissioning matters.
• Provide civil and structural technical supervision for all site investigation and survey activities as well as the Construction phase of the Project.
• Liaise with Project Geotechnical expertise

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
The Project Civil Engineer will have at least ten years relevant experience in design and construction, and should preferably have completed at least one comparable civil/structural engineering assignment.

He/she will have experience of major projects, design/construction with a good knowledge and understanding of civil/structural design codes and specifications. He/she will have a good general knowledge of the field of civil engineering with specific experience in the following areas:
• Conceptual and detailed design of onshore structures, foundations and civil engineering works,
• Good understanding of various loading criteria used in designing structures and foundations
• Experience of planning and execution of site soil investigations.
• Proven experience in a Civil Engineering position (essential), preferably within the oil and gas industry.
• Member of a professional body such as the UK Institution of Civil Engineers or equivalent (essential), and qualified to degree le

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
• Conversant with client or equivalent stage gate execution models implementation during FEED and Execute stages
• Previous experience working with a lump sum EPC contractor is desirable.
• International experience within North Africa or the Middle East would be an advantage.
• Extensive experience in the upstream segment on onshore Oil and Gas facilities
