The Company:
Our Client is a world leading Automotive OEM which is responsible for some of the most iconic 4x4's & Sports Cars produced. Due to the huge demand for current models and substantial investment in future projects there is a requirement for more resources across the business in engineering & manufacturing on a contract basis.

The Role:
Electrical Distribution System (EDS) group within the Electrical Engineering function of our client PD is responsible for the design, development and delivery of EDS components (such as connectors, fuse boxes), and Wiring Harness for the complete vehicle system in close partnership with EDS suppliers and other CoCs, across all client forward model programmes. Electrical Distribution System for Engines (EDSE) is a group within the EDS department responsible for the delivery of engine harnesses and associated end items such as link harnesses, brackets and fasteners for all forward model programmes. EDSE works very closely with base engines team in Powertrain Operations at Whitley to deliver to the unit gateways for new engine programmes. EDSE also works in close partnership with rest of the EDS organisation to ensure robust integration of engine harness in vehicle applications on all forward model programmes. This vacancy has emerged due to the recent re-structuring in the EDSE organisation and to backfill an existing position.

The role:
Lead Engineer role within EDSE is responsible for the delivery of forward model designs of engine harnesses and associated end items for the assigned client engine programmes. The role involves managing the delivery by working with the EDS Full Service Suppliers (FSS) on all aspects of harness design including gathering requirements, driving CAD maturity, completing design verification and validation, releasing parts and managing BOM and implementing electrical change requests. Lead Engineer is expected to drive the EDS FSS to deliver on time, at the right quality and costs, by running periodic module team meetings to track part releases and resolve AIMS Issue in a timely manner. Lead Engineer is responsible for delivering the design quality requirements (such as DFMEA, Supplement K) for engine harness designs and supporting engine builds and vehicle builds for prompt resolution of design issues. This would hence involve visits to the engine assembly plants, prototype build areas and vehicle assembly plants on a need basis. Lead Engineer role is supported by the EDSE Programme Leader for interfacing with the applicable programme management teams, for both engine and vehicle programmes. This ensures that the Lead Engineer is informed of new PDLs and programmes, build delivery dates and quantities, target dates for DT submissions and other key milestones for the programme. Based on the e-Scale for the programme, the role also requires optimising the EDS front end architecture to minimise harness complexity and support the requirements of the engine manufacturing plant as well as the vehicle assembly plant. The following training programmes and/or peer mentoring opportunity will be provided if the successful candidate is new to EDS Department to help them settle in and effectively fulfil this role - ECR Process, DT Process, Circuit Development & DSI, TCe / Digibuck, RMDV2 and WERS & MPNR use in EDSE.

Key Responsibilities:
Lead the design and development activities for engine harnesses, associated end items and Part-In-Assembly (PIA) components such as plastic formers, brackets and clips.
Support the release of DSI circuit files (or logical) by ensuring the circuit design process is completed on time and road blocks are effectively removed.
Lead the Device Transmittal (DT) and Electrical Change Request (ECR) process for a robust and timely release of engine harnesses.
Lead the development and maturity of CAD models for engine harnesses and end items in close partnership with the EDS supplier and ensure the virtual gateways requirements are met.
Drive and improve the design quality of engine harness assembly and associated end items on a continual basis through AIMS process.
Lead the DVP&R and Engineering Release process for engine harness delivery, in close partnership with the EDS Supplier.
Drive technical solutions to design and architectural challenges (including package, thermal and SDS exceptions) faced during the development of engine harnesses and ensure robust electrical integration to rest of the vehicle EDS.
Effectively manage costs and weight attributes of engine harnesses and end items to meet programme targets.
Identify opportunities for design process improvements and champion projects for continual improvements. Support the development of engine harness specific training programmes on a need basis.
Support engine plant and vehicle plant manufacturability requirements to ensure the successful transfer of harness design into manufacturing.
Coach the EDS supplier on client processes to improve their overall performance on delivery.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
3 KEY SKILLS REQUIRED
1. Experience in wiring harness design.
2. Knowledge of client or global automotive engineering standards and processes in the context of EDS or Electrical Engineering.
3. Use and knowledge of standard client or global quality tools such as DFMEA, 5-Why and G8D.


Educated to degree level. Experience in wiring harness design, preferably integral to base engines or transmission systems.
Use and knowledge of standard client or global quality tools
Knowledge of client engineering standards and processes
Ability to plan and manage workload in support of the above activities
Ability to report out/present to senior management on a need basis.
