The Company:
Our client is an Engineering Services company, who are an international technical consultancy, providing a range of services including licence to operate, asset management, manufacturing improvement and capital investment to customers in the chemical, petrochemical, oil & gas, pharmaceutical, manufacturing and consumer industries worldwide

The Role:
The business division currently have an opportunity for a Lead Engineer to join the Substations business unit. This position will proactively support the business by providing management of the design team during the project design phase and to support the tendering engineers during the tender phase. To ensure that the business provides robust optimised designs and documentation for each individual project under consideration, and that each project supports co-operative working within the business and with all customer/client stakeholders.

• Enact the legislative duties of design as a Lead Engineer to ensure co-operation and co-ordination between designers and support them in the development of designs which eliminate risk to health & safety or (where risks cannot be eliminated) designing and effectively communicating mitigation such that risk can be safely managed throughout the asset lifecycle
• Identify and manage additional risks across functions which may not be apparent to individual designers
• Support the CDM Coordinator in the enactment of their duties
• Manage the co-ordination of the design team across a range of disciplines
• Liaise with project management on engineering budgets. Provide forecast cost to complete estimates and associated justification to changes in expenditure
• Manage the programme and to interface with the planning engineers for design. Providing forecasts for completion and resource planning
• Approve documentation in accordance with the contractual requirements of the project
• Co-ordinate and chair design / hazard reviews
• Foster and promote a proactive team culture which ensures shared learning and best practice, good communication, work across boundaries (including pan-Alliance) and recognition of success
• Produce high quality material, right first time, identifying process constraints and improvements which can impact on quality

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• Strong design capability and experience in one or more of the following key NG engineering disciplines;
- Plant and Plant Configuration
- Protection and Control
- HV/EHV Cables
- Civil
- Overhead Line (OHL)
• Engineering related education or equivalent (HNC minimum qualification)
• Membership (or working towards membership) of relevant professional body eg. IET / IMechE
• Experience within the Electricity Supply Industry (preferred)
• Demonstrated successful capability in:
- Management and leadership
- Multi-discipline substation development design
- Familiarity with NG technical specification requirements
- Commercial acumen
- Effective communication skills including the ability to make persuasive presentations to small and large audiences
- Track record of good team working and developing working relationships quickly and effectively
- Capable of working to tight project time scales whilst paying attentio

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
• TP141 Authorisation
• Degree qualification in Electrical Power Engineering
