The Company:
Our client is an international oil and gas exploration and production company.

The Role:
This position, within the EPIC Project Management Team, is responsible and accountable for reviewing and coordinating all detailed instrument / automation systems and telecommunications engineering related to the EPIC contracts.

Project Objectives and Deliverables

• Responsible for coordination of instrumentation / automation systems across the scopes of work to ensure seamless integration

• Oversee instrumentation/ automation engineering performed by EPIC contractors [including controls, telecommunications and integration] to ensure compliance with the specifications of the contract.

• Propose/review design solutions, prepare/review data sheets, perform/review bid evaluations and advise on the instrumentation / automation systems portion of work for new for the field development.

• Provide site support and technical assistance for the entire project life cycle, of detailed design, construction, hook-up and commissioning of the new facilities, both in the offshore and onshore work environments.

• Observe relevant factory acceptance tests and/or site acceptance tests; review and coordinate works both offshore and onshore and to provide instruction and guidance on technical issues in line with the project requirements. Ensure that all suppliers equipment is in compliance with design specifications

Work to review existing instrumentation/ automation systems for adequacy of design.
Perform detailed design of instrumentation / automation modifications, as required.

• Interface with, and provide technical guidance for the activities of consultant engineering contractors as required.

• Review material requisitions [for purchase orders]; review and provide recommendation where contractor proposes a vendor which is not on the approved vendors list of the contract.

• Provide technical reports and assist in preparing management reports and attending project meetings.

• Work to ensure that the Company Management of Change and other risk management policies are maintained and that all work is carried out in accordance with departmental procedures.

Assist construction in all technical and materials issues.

• Participate in interface meetings with onshore and offshore construction. Participate in design reviews, technical impact and/or review meetings with construction, development, production and other groups.

• Maintain a complete record of technical items and correspondence to support design decisions and equipment selection, documenting all key instrument systems engineering calculations.

• Raise and discuss key and critical technical issues with the Engineering Manager to develop cost effective solutions, using best operating practice and current industry design criteria.

• Interpret and implement local and international design codes and practices to comply with local and international laws, as applicable. Ensure current International Standards and approaches are used and implemented where appropriate.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Either a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering (Electronic, Electrical, Instrument/Control preferred) with 10 years experience of instrument design in all aspects of offshore production platform systems, or a HNC/HND qualification in Instrumentation, together with a time served apprenticeship and at least 20 years instrumentation experience in a hands on offshore production platform environment.

• A minimum ten years experience in automation and instrumentation systems - including five years practical experience in design and troubleshooting of electrical and instrumentation systems for offshore topsides facilities.

• Experience of ABB Infi90, GE Fanuc, Hima Sella shutdown systems, relay based logic panels, generic PLC operation, fibre optics, radio networks, multiplexer systems, CCTV, digital instrumentation, operator graphics displays, digital systems integration, RGT4000/5000 gas turbine generators, GE Fr5, GEC HMC 1072/1172
