The Company:
Our Client, an Iron Ore Joint Venture, is a partnership between global business leaders; working with a major Iron Ore Operator on its multi-billion dollar growth plans in Western Australia.

The Role:
Our Client's Port team is seeking an experienced Lead Mechanical Designer for an immediate start.

In this position you will provide high level technical support and supervision in relation to mechanical design drafting services for engineering projects including civil, structural, mining, geotechnical, mechanical, piping, process, electrical and instrumentation engineering.

Your duties will include but are not limited to:

§ Plan and execute mechanical drafting deliverables to schedules agreed with the Drawing Office Manager/Design Manager
§ Provide leadership to the team of designers
§ Ensure all mechanical design drawings for engineering project work comply with statutory and regulatory requirements and company policies and practices;
§ Prepare schedules and allocate physical and human resources to enable design drawings for engineering projects to be completed on time and within budget;
§ Liaise with engineers to establish design criteria and ensuring project goals are met;
§ Supervise preparation of preliminary and detailed designs drawings for engineering projects and ensure project work complies with conditions and parameters set out in project scope of works.

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
§ Ability to counsel and mentor staff
§ Ability to arrange/prepare drawings based on engineering design inputs
§ Knowledge of drafting requirements for multiple disciplines
§ Ability to check drawings for detailed accuracy
§ Ability to assess people performance and potential
§ Ability to interview candidates
§ Ability to impart skills and train others
§ Experience on and EPCM; prior supervisory experience/training
§ Designer/Drafting qualification/diploma, technical drafting expertise
§ Ideally at least 10 years’ experience in design for engineering projects.
