The Company:
Our client is an Australian company specialising in Project Management Services, Consultancy and Engineering Services to the resources and infrastructure industries.

The Role:
The Lead Mechanical Engineer reports directly to the Ports and Infrastructure Regional Manager.

As a key team member of the Ports and Infrastructure Group, thie Lead Mechanical Engineer will undertake materials handling, mining and port project work from project development/preliminary design to construction management.
The chosen candidate will take responsibility for a wide range of project sizes and locations.


•The design of bulk materials handling equipment, plant and terminal layout, crushing and conveyor layout and design, stockyard layouts, rail, ship and truck loading/unloading systems;

•Gathering and review of design inputs such as previous studies, design criteria, vendor catalogue data, vendor certified data, relevant client, company, Australian and International Standards, codes and Legislative requirements, and information from other teams, sub consultants or client;

•Contribute to the development of systems and procedures to ensure all engineering elements of projects comply with conditions and parameters set out in scopes of works and design criteria;

•Develop and maintain standard specifications and drawings, with the aid of design engineers and design drafters, ensuring that project specific requirements are incorporated;

•Develop, or assist in development, the engineering man-hour budget relevant to the area of responsibility, and allocation against discreet work packages;

•Contribute to capital and operating cost estimates for input into economic models;

•Complete conveyor calculations using various conveyor design software;
Prepare equipment specifications and technical documentation for equipment procurement;

•Complete technical tender evaluations for mechanical materials handling equipment;

•Prepare study reports and presentations;
Work with other project and design engineers and designers on CG projects, and

•Conduct peer review and checking of other design work to proof for technical faults and compliance with all standards, codes and other regulatory and project requirements, and provide corrected solutions if necessary.

•Assignment of work priorities to design engineers, and monitoring of progress against plan.

•Monitoring and assist reporting of overall team design progress and forecasts.
Liaison with other discipline lead engineers, lead design drafter(s) and sub consultants to ensure optimal design outcomes and coordinated and efficient design efforts.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
•Relevant Degree or Tertiary Qualifications
•Minimum of 10 years engineering design and consulting experience in heavy mining and minerals progressing industry, including experience in team leadership, supervision and mentoring
•Membership of Australian Institute of Engineers or RPEQ
•Eligibility to work in Australia
