The Role:
Job Summary

The Lead Mechanical Engineer will be based in the FEED Contractor’s offices and act as the Owner’s technical representative in the area of mechanical static equipment and piping (M&P).


The major objectives of this position are as follows:

Ensure that mechanical equipment and piping furnished by the Contractor meets project technical specifications, Company Standards and Guidelines and project reliability, safety and operability goals.
Oversee activities of both the Contractor and his sub-vendors to design, manufacture and test mechanical equipment and piping materials.
Provide technical leadership during engineering of mechanical and piping interfaces between the existing and new facilities.

The successful candidate should be prepared to progress through FEED and the EPC project phases and finally transition to site to become a key member of the team supporting the construction, commissioning and start-up of the LNG plant.


Reporting Structure

The Lead Mechanical Engineer reports to the Engineering Manager and will work as part of a multi-discipline Client team to oversee design and procurement work carried out on behalf of QGC by the Contractor. Key PMT peer communication will be with the Rotating Equipment Engineer, Operations representatives and Project Engineers.


Major Responsibilities

Monitor the design Contractor’s work in specifying project mechanical equipment and piping.
Work with the Contractor and Operations personnel to define, scope and deliver Brownfield tie-ins.
Review Contractor Technical Evaluations
Develop & implement specific Engineering Assurance Plans for critical equipment
Review vendor data including Inspection Test Plans and coating/ preservation specs. Review Contractor quality surveillance reports, vendor NCRs and specification deviation requests
Prioritise FEED M&P engineering work activities according to relative criticality.
Perform economic evaluations of equipment alternatives with particular emphasis on availability and reliability projections and life cycle costs.
Assist the operations and maintenance team in establishing spare parts requirements and initial maintenance intervals for mechanical equipment.
Co-ordinate detailed equipment audits and piping studies performed by specialists.
Attend equipment & piping material kick-off meetings, pre-fabrication meetings and act as the owner's representative at vendors’ works during manufacture and testing of mechanical equipment.
Interface with owner’s third party surveillance services to supplement above
Transfer process and mechanical technical knowledge to plant operations and engineering support staff.
Monitor the design contractor’s development of mechanical commissioning procedures.
Monitor mechanical pre-commissioning, commissioning and start-up activities.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Unique Skills and Attribute Experience

Skilled in the design of mechanical static equipment or piping.
Skilled in the design management of mechanical equipment packages
Knowledgeable in the application of cryogenic engineering principles
Direct experience in managing complex brown-field plant integration scope and tie-ins.
Significant FEED or EPC project experience.
Detailed understanding of the interface between engineering disciplines, operations and project engineering.
Experience of working on significant assignments on design teams for process plants and significant involvement in testing of LNG or similar process plants.
