The Role:
Fircroft require a Lead Mechanical Engineer to Lead the Mechanical team for a busy Oil & Gas operator

Location: Aug 2013 - Jan 2014 - Based in South of the UK
Feb 2014 - Dec 2014 - Based in Kazakhstan on 6/2 rotation
Duration: Circa 18 months Contract

The Lead Mechanical Engineer will lead the mechanical fixed (emphasis on fixed) and rotating equipment engineering activities

Work in coordination with the Engineering Manager and Project Engineer to clearly establish the mechanical engineering work scope as related to design and specification of fixed and rotating equipment for the project’s oil and gas facilities, and communicate such to the Project Team and Engineering & Procurement (E&P) Contractor.

Ensure all project information related to design, procurement and construction is accurate and timely, meets the relevant standards and specifications and is made available to the project team in line with the required schedule.

Review and communicate progress of the mechanical engineering design deliverables and performance of the E&P contractor to the Project Engineer, flagging any potential schedule slippage and areas of concern.

Support the preliminary and detailed engineering development of mechanical equipment as required by the project.

Ensure the mechanical fixed equipment interfaces with the existing plant are well defined, and that control philosophies align with existing operations.

Provide direction to the engineering contractor in design development and evaluation of mechanical equipment, for fixed items and may also be called upon for support related to rotating items. Examples of daily activities with the engineering contractor include design and application of heat exchangers and cooling towers, design of pressure vessels and columns, review of material selection diagrams, coordination and definition of physical interface points with existing plant equipment, etc….

Ensure adequate flexibility and design margins are accounted for within design of mechanical equipment items.

Develops and delivers technical presentations to highlight new technologies and applied lessons learned as may be relevant.

Expedite, review and comment on material requisitions, bid evaluations & vendor technical documentation for mechanical equipment items and related bulk materials.

Participate in design reviews of E&P contractor’s engineering deliverables and vendor engineering design, manufacturing and testing deliverables.

Ensure mechanical equipment lists, data sheets, etc. are maintained and kept up-to-date by the E&P contractor.

Review, comment on and approve mechanical design documentation produced by the E&P contractor, and ensure that plant personnel provide input to the design at an each stage of the project.
Ensure key stakeholders (Plant operations, maintenance, reliability, engineering) are effectively engaged at all phases of project development specific to mechanical engineering deliverables.

Ensure engineering drawings and design packages are issued by the E&P Contractor as per the project plans to support subcontracting and construction needs.

Ensure that mechanical design packages are transmitted by the E&P Contractor to enable the timely planning, contracting and efficient field execution.

Ensure release of all required drawings, specs, and procedures necessary for field installation.

Follow and support project procedures to ensure engineering standards and practices are followed on all project work.

Provide engineering assistance to the project planners on questions related to mechanical work scope definition, materials, and field coordination.

Construction Phase
Provide engineering review of all extra work requests relating to mechanical fixed and rotating equipment items and inform Engineering Manager and Project Engineer on areas of growth.

Provide mechanical engineering support for Field Construction Personnel.

Reviews all required mechanical and package equipment engineering changes during the project construction phase, and provide recommendation to Engineering Manager and Package Managers on acceptance or alternative solution.

Support optimized use of owner and contractor’s resources during field execution phase.

Interface with Lead Operations Representative and Construction Manager to ensure quality of work for operability, maintainability, and technical intent on Project.

Produce punch list of items to be corrected on capital work prior to transfer of facilities for commissioning. Lead troubleshooting and solving of regulatory and mechanical equipment issues.
Post Construction Phase
Ensure proper project closeout as per company guidelines.
Ensure that “as-built drawings” are completed as required.
Ensure timely completion of all post construction project activities.
Conduct formal project look-back and share lessons learned.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
HND, HNC in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
Degree or equivalent
