The Company:
Our client is a nuclear specialist, covering both civilian and defence sectors, across the complete lifecycle from New Build, through Operations and Maintenance, to final decommissioning and waste disposal.

The Role:
.The Vessels and Piping Lead Engineer is principally a hands-on design based role with a degree of team leadership. The Vessels and Piping Lead Engineer will be responsible for delivering the vessels and leading the pipework design across the entire plant. You will have frequent liaison with other disciplines in the design team and with the client. Lead engineers are the main interface between senior management and hands-on design.

Key responsibilities as a Vessels and Piping Engineer…
•Development of designs to satisfy technical specifications, such as BS EN 13445, ASME, B31.3 and PED, PSSR legislation
•Checking of design calculations of designers and other engineers within the team to the requisite code
•Prepare supporting design calculations to substantiate design
•Actively contribute to design reviews, safety reviews (Risk Assessments and HAZOP’s) from technical standpoint
•Preparation of technical specifications and enquiry requisitions to enable estimates to be produced for Phase 3 in liaison with client and project team
•Support capability in the production of piping specifications and their maintenance, material specification for vessels and the component parts
•Define critical pipe stress criteria, supervise pipe stress analysis, checking of CAESAR outputs
•Produce design documentation throughout the design process including scope of works, method statements, risk assessments, technical files and other technical documentation to comply with design standards, safety legislation/regulatory requirements and the needs of the client
•Preparation of installation, commissioning and operating documents Based within a multidisciplinary team, reporting to Engineering Manager or Senior Engineer on project deliverables

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
•Position of the Vessels and Piping Lead Engineer within the organisation:
•Experience in process engineering and pipework is essential
•Knowledge of vessels and tank standards including ASME standards, BS EN 13445, as well as knowledge of other materials BS EN 12573 (thermoplastics) and BS EN 13121 (GRP).
•Knowledge of piping standards such as ASME B31.3 standards and European equivalents (BS EN 13480) is highly preferable
•Knowledge of vessel design software is essential, knowledge of Finglow, Ansys is highly beneficial
•Minimum HNC qualification or equivalent gained within a relevant discipline e.g. Mechanical Engineering
•Listens and supports the client to determine their requirements
•Capable of leading a team and supporting development of capability
•Capable of working autonomously to complete tasks
•Capable of preparing calculations, technical reports, analysis and specifications and presenting them in a clear and easily accessible format
