The Role:
Fircroft are hiring for a Lead Pipeline Engineer for a joint operating company for a long term residential project out in Kazakhstan.

Contract Duration: 12 months initially to be extended – 3 years workload
Type of contract: residential - single status
Work Hours: 40 hours per week standard – 5 days a week
Package: Day rate + Accommodation + flights

The Lead Pipeline Engineer is part of the project engineering leadership team. He / she is responsible to deliver the offshore / onshore segments of crude export pipeline. This position is responsible both for the pipeline discipline engineering as well as Pipeline execution covering procurement, installation, and hook-up and commissioning, contract management.

The oil export Pipeline is a 12” pipeline 70km (offshore) + 14km (onshore). An additional gas export line of 10” is also anticipated. The pipeline installation is particularly challenging considering ultra shallow water depths, ice gouging of sea bed, deep trenching requirements, very soft soils and existence of UXOs along the pipeline route.

The job holder is responsible for:

Leading the Pipeline FEED activities and providing appropriate Technical Assurance of the FEED deliverables.

Exploring novel design techniques for optimising the pipeline design considering loading from ice keels.

Technical management of several innovative pipeline developments such as fibre optic leak detection systems.

Identifying surveys and tests to be carried out to gather information for the design development (i.e. geotechnical and geophysical investigation, topographic surveys, ice modelling tests, etc.), applying the results to the engineering and design definition of the facilities

Ensuring a variety of installation methods is feasible given specific constraints, including surface tow, push-pull and shallow water lay.

Lead the Pipeline EPC Tendering activity including preparation of scope of work, tendering, evaluation and recommend award

Responsible for providing HSE leadership and leading Company, pipeline contractor teams in delivering the pipeline scope with no LTIs.

Responsible for providing cost and schedule updates, VoWD to Company project services team.

Build pipeline discipline engineering team within Company and develop local ROK pipeline engineers to deliver the next tranche of inter-field pipelines.

Interface with Operations and develop the Pipeline integrity and maintenance schedules in the operations philosophy.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
An Engineering degree in Mechanical, Civil or other relevant discipline.

A minimum of 15 years experience in onshore and near shore pipeline design, including installation techniques.

Experience in previous similar company role, especially in managing and interfacing with major Contractors.

Experience in design of pipeline in arctic regions and impacted with ice loads would be an advantage.

Experience in Former Soviet Union and/or Caspian Area would be an advantage.

Previous experience in a joint venture operating company would also be an advantage

Managing multiple interfaces and good communication skills in a joint venture environment are a must.

Previous experience mentoring junior engineers would be an advantage.
