The Company:
Our client is a leading International EPC/M organisation who is engaged in some of the worlds largest and most technically challenging Oil & Gas projects currently under execution.

The Role:
We are currently sourcing a Lead Piping & Layout Engineer to join the North West Office on an Agency hire basis.

Candidates will be Lead Piping & Layout Engineers with a substantial, recent and proven track record of supervising teams of PDMS designers and Piping Engineers on large onshore oil and gas, refinery or petrochemical projects and should be able to demonstrate experience, in a similar and relevant position, of FEED and detail design work.

Good communication and presentation skills are essential.

Some travel within and outside the UK may be required.

The individual must be self-motivated and familiar with all stages of piping engineering including piping materials, relevant piping codes and standards, scheduling, estimating, material control and pipe stress analysis, 3D plant layout and piping design and ideally be competent in the use of PDMS, Navisworks, AutoCAD v12 and CAESAR II.

Core Responsibilities:
Project Piping and Layout Lead Engineer, having accountability and responsibility for all piping engineering and plant design drawing office resources and activities.
Technical design authority for all piping engineering and plant design activities to ensure that the applicable company systems are used, that the relevant QA procedures and standards are followed and that the design conforms to contract specific requirements and any other Client, company, national or international standards, design codes and legislation.
Effective day to day supervision, management, motivation and guidance of a team of subordinate Piping Engineers and Piping Designers, disseminating and distributing, where necessary and appropriate, project and corporate information, directives and initiatives, encouraging innovation in design work with due regard to safety and minimisation of cost whilst maintaining technical integrity.
Manhour budgetary control, resource planning and manpower forecasting for the Piping Engineering and Piping and Layout Design team including liaison with Cost and Planning engineers to provide accurate and reliable progress reports and manhour forecasts, scheduled dates and delivery status.
Developing the execution strategy for all Piping Engineering and Piping and Layout Design work and thereafter allocating and overseeing said work to available resources at offices in Bredbury and/or Mumbai.
Liaison with CAD/CAE department in Brentford to establish and thereafter maintain problem free CAD systems (predominantly PDMS) both in the UK office and globally.
Control and audit of all Piping Engineering and Piping and Layout drawing office activities to ensure that the applicable company systems are used, that the relevant QA procedures and standards are followed and that the design conforms to contract specific requirements and any other Client, company, national or international standards, design codes and legislation.
Liaison with Clients, Licensors, suppliers and other design disciplines, including Pipe Stressing and Metallurgy, to ensure that the information critical to design development is readily available and implemented in a timely manner.
Managing and monitoring the execution checking, approval and internal and external review of all Piping Engineering and Piping and Layout deliverables to ensure they meet the project schedule and deadlines.
Development of the project purchasing and supply chain strategy and approved vendor lists. Managing and monitoring the execution of all Piping procurement activities to ensure they meet the project schedule and delivery deadlines.
Co-ordinating and managing internal and external design reviews.
Identification of contractual scope changes and thereafter the preparation of realistic manhour estimates to execute the additional work.

Requisitions for bulk piping materials, valves and accessories
Technical Bid Analysis for bulk piping materials, valves & in-line accessories
Coaching and mentoring of apprentices, graduates and less experienced engineers.

Specific Accountabilities to include some or all of:
Ensure that the applicable company systems are used, that the relevant QA procedures and standards are followed and that the piping and layout design within his area of responsibility conforms to contract specific requirements and any applicable Client, company, national and international standards, design codes and legislation and raise deviations where necessary.
Complete all work within the estimated manhour budget and in a timely manner to ensure that project deadlines are met, maintaining own and teams work progress (budget and schedule) and identifying scope change where necessary.
Liaise with Clients, Licensors, other design disciplines and suppliers on technical and other piping design matters on a regular basis and in a professional manner
Working accurately and always within the provisions and guidelines of the Company Quality Assurance system or that relevant to the Project.
Safety – responsible for personal safety safe working practices for the Project. Understand and follow OH&S procedures.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
PDMS (preferred)

AutoCAD (preferred)

CAESAR II (preferred)

Significant experience at supervisory level on Petrochemical and Oil & Gas FEED and EPC Design Projects in a similar role with similar international Design Contractors.

Broad expertise in pipework design, piping materials engineering, process plant layout, fabrication, erection and testing, health, safety and environmental issues with some site experience and proven track record of executing piping design using ASME piping codes and standards, 3D PDMS and AutoCAD.

Proven decision making and problem solving abilities

Proven record of client satisfaction

Excellent communication and coordination skills.

Degree, HND or HNC in Mechanical Engineering. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of academic qualifications
