The Company:
Our client is a leading international design & consultancy company offering Design & Engineering solutions to various industries including Oil & Gas, Mining & Metals. They are currently looking to recruit a Lead Piping Designer on a 4month contract (extendable), preference remains with candidates currently in UAE due to urgency of the role.

The Role:
The Lead Piping Designer assists with project planning, information and work allocation to the piping designers to achieve the project schedule. The Lead Piping Designer manages a team of piping designers to ensure the quality production of all 2D and 3D deliverables including the resolution of technical issues related to the discipline.

• Prepare a list of design deliverables and time based functions to facilitate the planning and control of the piping designer’s budget.
• Layout complex plant and piping systems using 3D modeling design tools.
• In conjunction with engineering staff, prepare design concepts for internal and client reviews.
• Perform clash detection of models and other disciplines models and coordinate actions and closeout
• Model existing plant and equipment.
• Model and update vendor equipment in the 3D environment.
• Extract Fabrication ISOs
• Check Fabrication ISOs
• Ensure all drawings, 2D extractions and piping deliverables are checked to comply with company quality standards
• Ensure compliance with all relevant engineering standards and project procedures for all design activities
• Use vendor drawings and information sheets to develop and check the model
• Coordinate and verify piping Material Take Offs (MTOs)
• Locate standard pipe supports in the model and design special pipe supports with piping stress analyst input
• Ensure coordination with designers and engineers of other disciplines
• Train and mentor junior and intermediate designers and provide guidance on company standards and quality requirements
• Participate in formal piping design reviews
• Extract stress sketches and ISOs.
• Produce piping General Arrangement (GA) and equipment location drawings
• Promote and maintain the application of ethical and professional practices in the execution of piping work.
• Perform model yellow line checks using P&IDs

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• Advanced Diploma of Engineering or equivalent (mechanical preferred)
• Minimum of eight years piping design experience, with a minimum of 5 years leadership experience
• Sound design and modeling skills for plant layout, piping design and detailing
• Thorough knowledge of piping components and materials
• Sound knowledge of industry or regulatory standards and codes as required for piping design
• Locate standard pipe supports in the model and design special pipe supports with piping stress analyst input
• Experience with isometric production control and monitoring
• Experience with multidisciplinary coordination
• Proficient in the use of 2D and 3D CAD systems
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Sound working knowledge of design systems and workflows as they relate to the piping discipline
• Thorough understanding of P&IDs
• Experience within a large project, multidisciplinary EPCM environment
