The Company:
Our client a UK based refining and marketing company, have interests in a number of facilities in the United Kingdom, employing around 1000 people throughout the UK and over 33000 worldwide. They have had their presence on Teesside for over 30 years, processing and storing crude oil ready for shipment along with being an established supplier of bulk fuels, including LPG, to the commercial, aviation and marine industries.

The Role:
The Projects Lead Engineer is required to lead a team of multi-discipline project engineers and service Contractors in delivering a challenging programme of plant modification projects aimed at extending the life of the Site for a further 20 years and beyond. Reporting to the Projects & Engineering Superintendent, the Lead Engineer will be responsible for all aspects of modification project delivery within the annual work programme – from input to concept development, scope/estimate development, execution planning, management cost and progress reporting through to final hand-over. The Lead Engineer will play a key role in supporting the on-going development of project planning and execution work processes at Teesside, including beyond the annual work programme into the 10-year planning horizon. The Lead Engineer will supervise a team of eight Engineers and two Construction Supervisors (Staff & Contractor) together with the Service Contractors who support them.

In addition to the projects role, the Lead Engineer will provide technical support as required to both the Maintenance Group and the Asset Integrity Group within Teesside. Some experience of pressure equipment mechanical integrity is therefore advantageous.

Safety is a key driver for us, so we are looking for someone with the right understanding and approach to deliver both process safety and personal safety within a top tier COMAH site environment.

Overall we are looking for a self-motivated team player with skills and experience in safely delivering a multiple project portfolio in a demanding operational environment.


•Responsible for the execution of design works, fitness for service assessment, plant changes and brown field/modification projects at the Teesside facility
•Responsible for carrying out plant modification projects in multi discipline teams, usually in the team-lead role.
•To ensure adherence to management of change and project management requirements.
•To provide required technical support, either in house or external resources, for site operations and maintenance activities.
•To take active responsibility for own personal professional development.
•Overall project execution in 1 year plan.
•Liaise with Projects Supt and Eng Services group on project planning on 1 -3 year horizon.
•Final preparation of 1 year budget & integrated plan / work list.
•Project execution in accordance with MoC / PCR Standards.
•Month by month project cost, progress reporting and forecasting.
•Responsible for carrying out fitness for service assessment activities within the overall plant A&
•To provide technical input to, and active support for, the development and execution of the plant A&OI programmes.
•Control of resources for FFS assessment as required with AI group.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
•Degree in Mechanical Engineering
•Chartered Engineer or approaching Chartered status, or equivalent
•Relevant experience in the oil and gas industry
•Understanding of the complete project lifecycle, including problem definition, studies, conceptual and detailed design, procurement, construction, commissioning, operation, maintenance, inspection, assessment and repair.
•Demonstrate effective interpersonal, leadership skills and supervisory competence

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
•Experience in engineering support, mechanical integrity and project management / engineering activities.
•Experience in detailed fitness for service assessment of pressure equipment integrity using principal BS, ASME, API and EEMUA codes.
