The Role:
Lead Subsurface Technologist - Overview
Location Aberdeen

As a Lead Subsurface Technologist you will manage a team of Technologists who provide a support service to the Exploration & Production teams in UK and Netherlands.
You will be responsible for developing the IS Application and Data Management Strategy for the Global Subsurface community ensuring Technical Excellence is maintained.
In partnership with IS Portfolio Manager/Discipline Chiefs in the Business Units, when relevant, identify and recommend best practices for subsurface. This will entail consultation with the teams on recommended G&G; workflows, technologies and methodologies.
Interfaces with outside subsurface technology companies, and retain familiarity with state-of-the-art subsurface applications and development options.
Ensure the quality of subsurface data, providing in-house and external project management and Quality Control / Quality Assurance oversight.
Manage customer relations with internal teams to ensure projects are delivered on-time and on-budget. You will provide development and career mentoring for the technologists using the defined Competency Skills set.

Lead Subsurface Technologist - The Role
Organize and manage data management projects for the global subsurface community 100+
Provide high quality asset divestment and datarooms in-house and virtually.
Development and implementation of data management processes and standards.
Design of global subsurface data management strategy and objectives setting.
Global IS Solution for a Standardized Subsurface Toolkit to provide an integrated subsurface solution to the lifecycle of a field development.
Communicate with the Business on the latest releases, announcements, useful tips, writing workflows and guides, sharing them across the whole community.
Collaborate with IS on subsurface licenses including annual Maintenance & Support renewals and implementing new software package including evaluation summaries and business justification cases for new software.
Application support & advisor on various systems, and software such as Petrel, ODM, SMT Kingdom, Openworks and Eclipse.
Strong knowledge of Unix/Linux as well as PC operating systems including scripting and file management.
Extensive experience loading and managing G&G data (seismic and well data) while maintaining high quality data bases and efficient integration of data between applications.
Experience in quality assurance, troubleshooting, and data preparation for integration between applications.
Implementation of Hub User Groups for Upstream Subsurface community

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
A degree in a natural science or engineering discipline. (Geology, Geophysics, Reservoir, Petroleum Engineering). Or an IT degree, with significant experience in the E&P industry.
Experience with Linux, Unix, Oracle, SQL and Landmark or Schlumberger petrotechnical tools essential.
Ability to manage large data projects, mentor and direct a team or interface with outside contractors, and deliver results
Must be thorough with a high level of attention to detail to highlight errors and suggest improvements to the existing operation.
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills - comfortable interfacing with all levels of company employees as well as routine interactions with Project Teams
