The Role:
Purpose:
To establish and maintain a system of translation quality assurance to ensure acceptable translation quality across the Venture and to organize quality control of completed translation to meet approved quality criteria.
The job holder works within the frames of Language Services specific procedures and to a certain extent exercises independent judgment to apply the guidelines and procedures to specific situations. The work requires good knowledge of Company policies, procedures and the RoK and international regulations pertaining to translations quality and QC function.
Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
• Establishment of a system for quality assurance and management to ensure that any translation meets the expectations of customers in terms of quality
• Management of QC Group of 7 people including proper planning and distribution of work load in QC Group; coordination of QC activities by setting priorities and directing the work of QC Group.
• Development of recommendations regarding proofreading and editing techniques for QC Advisors, provide proposals to Language Services Manager regarding updating Language Services instructions and procedures
• Development of recommendations and giving advice to in-house translators and translation contractors in terms of proper style, grammar and terminology use
• Make sure that relevant quality management systems are in place in contracting translation companies.
• Provide the quality control of translations from\into English, Russian made for NCOC and Operator’s Agents
• Review, analyze and resolve any quality complains from requesters, develop recommendation to avoid complains re-occurrence
• Assistance to requesters in reviewing and resolving contested translation cases, preparation of thorough report to refer a highly complex translation quality case to Language Services Manager.
• Analyze the nature and cause of errors to identify areas needing improvement in translation and QC processes, keep QC Group informed on required improvement.
• Assist Terminologist in keeping QC Group and Language Services staff updated on amendments of the RoK laws, regulations and standards where amendments resulted in introduction of new terms relevant to Kashagan Project and ensure the agreed terminology is used in translations.
• Maintain QC records in a QC log and feedback forms
• Prepare and submit statistics reports on quality compliance to LS Manager on a monthly basis
• Perform staff appraisal of subordinates: evaluation of QC Group members’ performance through the review of completed work assignments and work techniques.
• Identify QC Group development and training needs, develop PDP for QC Advisors and ensure their professional development
• Serve as a liaison with staff and management concerning error trends and problem areas.

1. Kazakhstan Statutory Health, Safety & Environmental Laws/Regulations;
2. The NCPOC Corporate Health, Safety & Environment Policy, and Safety Management Systems.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills:
• High professional education, at least 8 years experience, preferably in the oil industry, of which a minimum of three years must have been in a supervisory role
• Understanding of general principles of quality management and translation quality control systems
• Fluency in English and Russian
• Sound knowledge of technical and specialist terminology and its proper use
• High quality written style of English and Russian
• Personal quality of diplomacy, integrity and ability to keep the information confidential
• Ability to analyze and evaluate a variety of information to achieve the QC objectives
• Ability to maintain records, prepare reports, and conduct correspondence
• Managerial skills to organize and supervise QC Advisors
• Good time management skills and deep understanding of wider issues
• Interpersonal and influencing skills and ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of stakeholders within NCPOC, the Operator, Agents and Contractors
• Ability to work within a multicultural environment
• Understanding of Ethics and Protocol to be adopted at different functions
• Sound computer skills to use all standard MS-Office software
