The Company:
The client is a leader within the Automation and Control Systems field with operations in 100 countries worldwide. They specialise in providing integrated solutions to the Transmission and Distribution and Oil & Gas industry with projects offshore and overseas.

The Role:
To provide commercial direction, strategy, leadership and support to the business unit. Ensure that commercial discipline is maintained throughout all project delivery phases. The role will also involve providing guidance and fostering the development of all project staff on commercial issues.Overseeing a team of Quantity Surveyors providing support, guidance and training on all commercial issues

Key duties:

• Establish and develop processes and controls to provide the necessary commercial service to allow the business to fulfill its contractual obligations regarding notices and valuations as prescribed by various forms of contract and subcontract.
• Understand the contractual requirements of project documents including the roles and responsibilities of all involved and the notices required to record change etc.
• Establish a strategy for the contractual administration of civil sub-contracts to ensure risk to is minimised.
• Develop a strategy for the defense/application of contractual claims. Advise the team during claim negotiations
• Development, Integration and management of Quantity Surveyors/Cost Engineers into Power Systems.
• Provision of commercial reporting to Project Teams and Senior Management
• Establish and Maintain cost and valuation reporting procedures
• Establish, develop and Maintain contract administration procedures
• Negotiation and settlement of claims and final accounts
• Initiate and maintain a means of contractual understanding within Project Teams.


• Establishing and promoting an effective change management, controls and regime to include training across different business streams
• Establishing effective contract administration regime to minimise risk to the business
• To take responsibility and sell commercial concepts and ideas across the management spectrum to gain buy in

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• Recognised qualification to at least HNC standard, preferably to MRICS or equivalent.
• Several years experience of Quantity Surveying in Power Distribution, Utilities or M&E
• Experience of NEC3, FIDIC and interpreting client adapted forms of standard forms of contract.
• Experience of successfully defending and compiling large and complicated claims
• Experience in monthly cost/value reporting and cash flow management both with clients and supply chain.
• Experience in preparation and presentation of compensation events and claims.
• Computer literacy – Minimum Microsoft Office applications, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
• Experience of developing, leading and motivating a team of quantity surveyors team
• Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
• Experience of collaborative working and strong communication skills both in partnership with Clients, and in liaising with the various specialist functions.
