The Company:
Our client specialise in the design, manufacture, assembly, test, installation and commissioning of bespoke solutions for the nuclear decommissioning, defence, and nuclear new build markets.

The Role:
The Manufacturing Planner will ensure that the interface between projects and production operates effectively by providing an overall production schedule of planned Manufacturing activities. The role will involve working closely and proactively with the projects and relevant functional areas, Manufacturing, Procurement, HSQ&E, Stores etc. in order to develop and improve the relevant processes, production schedule and underpinning information.

Develop an overall production schedule of planned Manufacturing activities (1-3 month look ahead), in liaison with the Project Planners. This schedule should consider all interdependencies; including stores, procurement, sub-contractors, inspections, quality, engineering, etc.)

From the overall production schedule develop weekly look-aheads, in terms of resource profiles of personnel and equipment. Where there are short-falls, identify solutions with the corresponding IPTs. Resource profile should consider manufacturing leave and training requirements.

Agree with IPT leads the Project priorities within manufacturing and review as agreed with IPT leads

The Manufacturing Planner will run the weekly project/manufacturing meeting with works and updates the manufacturing baseline and includes all key stakeholder involved in manufacturing delivery. Identify progress against the schedule and issues that are preventing planned progress. Owners are to be identified to resolve these issues.

Identify risks within the manufacturing schedule and, in conjunction with the IPTs, identify mitigation plans.

Identify exceptions (situations where it is forecast that there will be a deviation beyond agreed tolerances) and execute the escalation procedure (Fitter->Supervisor->ME->Project Engineer->PM(SPM)->Prog.Manager/Manf. Manager->Director), as previously agreed.

Understand the business Manufacturing priorities and ensure that these are communicated to all key stakeholders.

Establishment of manufacturing schedule, resources and budgets to agreed estimates and timescales

Obtaining feedback from MEs

Completion of schedule updates on a weekly basis

Analysis of manufacturing resource demands/availability

The Manufacturing Planner will be involved in the production of timely and accurate internal reports/schedules

To interrogate/interpret project information through systems and verbal/electronic communication to deliver robust forecasts

To organise the planning of work through a range of manufacturing areas including machining, assembly, welding and fabrication

To expedite materials to achieve the completion of the planned work

To deliver monthly forecast reports to the executive board for each of the manufacturing areas

To introduce working practices to enable recording and measurement of actual times against forecast

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
The Manufacturing Planner will demonstrate good knowledge of project scheduling, resourcing and costing

General understanding of project management principles and processes

Comfortable working as part of a team

Data manipulation skills particularly within MS Excel and MS Access

Excellent IT skills (MS Excel, Access and VBA), numeric and analytical skills

Good spoken and written English

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
Manufacturing and Production planning experience
