The Role:
This post sits within a project team responsible for the management and delivery of the Gas Development Project situated West of Shetland in the UKCS. This Project forms the first stage in the expansion of the development network for the Company and is therefore of high strategic importance.

The Material/Welding Engineer will assist Material/Welding Lead Engineer on engineering aspects related to material selection, coatings, cathodic protection, corrosion mitigation/monitoring and welding, including advising Inspection criteria of the project. They will have to cope with technical aspect, prioritise the various works, deal with interface team to capture constraints on interface with other package (SPS and SGP), assist for the preparation/ prepare contractual documents related to SURF contract, SGP modification and pipeline order, assist the lead engineer during technical clarifications, report to the Material/Welding Lead Engineer on regular basis to capture main difficulties with proposed way forward.

ACTIVITIES

•Provide specialist technical/engineering advice and guidance on all matters relating to materials selection, pipeline specifications and pipeline welding.
•Contribute to the development of specifications and procedures relating to the selection of materials, welding procedures and the prevention and control of corrosion, adopting a proactive approach to metallurgical and materials problems.
•Contribute specialist technical input to the development of inspection strategies and programmes and in particular with respect to pressure vessels and piping through liaison with the relevant specialists
•Review, control and approve, when appropriate, the specifications, requisitions, design procedures, layouts, arrangements and cause & effect charts provided by the basic engineering contractor.
•Obtain validation of the basic engineering design related to material selection, welding and NDE procedures to be used.
•Contribute to the development of specifications and procedures relating to the selection of materials, welding procedures and the prevention and control of corrosion, adopting a proactive approach to metallurgical and materials problems.
•Contribute specialist technical input to the development of inspection strategies and programs and in particular with respect to pipelines,pressure vessels and piping through liaison with the relevant specialists
•Work on engineering on all aspects related to material selection and welding for the pipeline PO and equipment/facilities to be included in the SURF and SGP work packages.
•Demonstrate commitment to SHE through Personal Safety Performance Contract
•Develop/assist lead engineer for the development/review of the technical Scope of work (exhibit A &E) to be included in the main contracts, LLIs orders and pipeline POs.
•Manage/assist lead engineer and contract manager for the performance of pre-contract award clarifications and technical evaluations/recommendation.
•Assist, manage and organize with contract team the SURF contract build-up and LLI orders.
•Assist and manage with contract team Contractual & Commercial Negotiations during the Tender phase.
•Pro-actively liaise with Technology, Drilling, Operations, Contractor, Sub-Contractors, Vendors and certifying agency teams on all aspects of the project.
•Liaise with interface team and actively contribute to the resolution of interfaces
•Prepare and present Technical dossiers.
•Ensure that procedures and rules are developed and applied in accordance with the selected company referential.
•Ensure deliverables will meet Quality Requirements and adequate Quality Surveillance is implemented.
•Positively represent the Company at Contractor premises, sites when required.
•Develop effective and constructive relationships with contractor representatives in a manner that enables a high level of value to be obtained.
•Report to material and welding lead engineer and inform of any potential problems in a pro-active manner.
•Continually seek learning opportunities to further their technical capability and openly share knowledge with other team members.
•Attend meetings held at the offices of the company Project in Aberdeen and basic engineering contractor premises as required.
•Safely deliver the facilities on time and within budget.
•Participate in/contribute to safety studies/HAZOPS, etc.

ACCOUNTABILITY

•Ensure budget and cost management against time/quality/ budget/client satisfaction and safety
•Ensure multi-discipline technical aspects are managed competently, minimising cost and optimising company/contractor labour force, while ensuring safety and environmental issues are paramount
•Ensure appropriate channel of communication is maintained with management at all levels to ensure operational difficulties are focused on by the relevant expert and that problems are anticipated early and are solved in a timely manner.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
•Degree in Materials Engineering or Metallurgy
•Good knowledge of oil and gas pipeline & umbilical design, construction and operation ideally gained from working in the North Sea
•Good communication skills and the ability to represent the Company both internally and externally at all levels
•Knowledge of Company, Group and statutory policies and procedures in relation to engineering, technology and project management will be a plus.
•Significant engineering experience (raising / reviewing procedures, specifications, technical reports, and management of engineering personnel).
•Detailed knowledge of industry standards, specifications and best practices
•Recognised level of expertise in technical discipline
•Experience in management of contractors in respect to QA/QC practices, particularly in relation to welding fabrication and coating
