The Role:
Fircroft are seeking a Welding engineer for a long term contract position within the UK then transferring overseas

Duration: 12 months Rolling contract
Location: London
Hours: Mon-Fri 40 Hours a week
Rate: Negotiable

The role is initially based in London at the Design Contractor’s offices with visits to Contractors’ yards during procedure qualification. With the start of construction activities, the role moves to an in country position in Azerbaijan and Georgia with frequent visits to site and fabrication shops.
The Materials & Welding Engineer advises on and provides technical assurance on materials and welding issues related to the onshore pipeline and related facilities. This includes:-
Technical liaison between projects and in country Engineering and Construction Teams and the Construction Contractors for Pipelines and Facilities
Provision of Welding, Materials, NDT and Coatings engineering oversight to the Construction Contractors to assure safe and timely completion of the projects scope.

Act as the primary point of contact and source for technical expertise on Materials & Welding for the Project pipeline and facilities.
Ensure compliance with the relevant Technical Integrity and HSSE standards
Review of AFC design documents.

Technical Integrity and Quality Assurance:-
Bring materials, corrosion and welding issues to resolution with the engineering contractor and suppliers including timely response to the Contractors’ applications for concessions or waivers. Seek guidance from Materials, Welding and Corrosion Lead Engineer as required.
Participate in project Design HAZID’s, Risk analyses, Workshops, TRAPs, FMECA activities as required.
Coordinate with company Quality function and provide input to determining Hold and Witness points within the Inspection & Test Plan. Maintain surveillance of the Contractors’ construction and fabrication activities and monitor the material and welding quality of all products.
Contractor Management:-
Review materials engineering specifications and data sheets prepared by engineering and construction contractors. Review and endorse Data Sheets, Techncial Notes, SoWs etc as required.
Review and endorse welding and NDE procedures for pipelines and facilities.
Provide engineering assistance and guidance to the Contractor welding department, inspectors and supervisors

BASIC SKILLS
Detailed knowledge of ASME IX, API1104, ANSI B31.8 and ANSI B31.3 Codes for Process Piping and Pipelines.
Fluency in written and verbal English
Ability to write and to review and approve welding procedures and weld and welder qualification procedures
Ability to read and interpret Process and Instrument Diagrams.
Ability to read and interpret Piping Fabrication Isometrics.
Ability to work on own initiative.
Ability to produce written reports.
Ability to offer onsite troubleshooting, root cause analysis of field welding issues

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS
Chartered Engineer (CEng/Dipl.Ing) holding a degree in engineering, metallurgy, or materials science and having specialised training in welding technology qualifying for the International Institute of Welding (IIW) International Welding Engineer (IWE/EWE) diploma. Professional Membership of The Welding Institute (UK) is desirable and a minimum of 5 years relevant experience in the fabrication industry is considered essential.

EXPERIENCE
Extensive experience within the Petrochemical / Oil & Gas heavy construction industry as a senior welding engineer and specialist
Experience of onshore pipeline construction
Substantial previous experience in reviewing and approving weld procedures for pipeline systems, structural steel, carbon steel and stainless steel piping...
Substantial experience of monitoring weld procedure qualification and subsequent weld quality in work implementation.
