The Company:
Is a leading Automotive manufacturer with a reputation for outstanding quality the world over. With demand increasing and an upturn in production, there is a need to bring further skills into the business to deliver on current and future projects.

The Role:

To develop relevant material concepts to support current and next generation Bentley interiors and implement interior materials in the areas of polymers, adhesives, technical finishes, wood & leather.
Responsible for the specification, test and validation plan to achieve the cost, weight, timing and quality targets for each project.


MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES (Maximum of 5 relating to products, services etc.)

1. Lead Materials Development ; Support Design Processes
To research and develop relevant new materials technologies for direct application in Bentley interiors and to develop business cases for materials developments where required.
Advanced awareness of design and development techniques and technology in area of responsibility. Advanced ability to capture and specify the design requirements in area of responsibility.
Support the Engineering test & validation planning and sign off for systems and components in area of responsibility.
Support Engineering release and change management process.
2. Delivery of projects
To support material choices and optimize associated processes in the manufacture of wood and leather trimmed parts for all projects and coordinate manufacturing trials.
Responsible for planning and managing project related activities on a weekly basis. Reporting of project status for area of responsibility in functional area. Intermediate understanding of cross functional working with other areas of the business.
Active participation working with suppliers for progressing project deliverables. Basic financial awareness of their role in the organisation.
Knowledge of cost of parts and systems with an understanding of value engineering.
3. Problem Solving
Ability to solve complex materials related problems. Identify, analysis and management root causes and solutions.
Produce reports/presentations as appropriate and progress design guidelines. Deliver presentations at appropriate level.
4. Developing and maintaining Specialist knowledge
To develop materials related design guides, publish within Bentley and ensure their application and execution.
Actively seek new materials, and suppliers of existing materials. Assess supplier capability and assist with their integration with Bentley.
Responsible for keeping the local team up-to-date with technology in area of responsibility.
Capture learning from previous experience.
Understand and maintain liaison with VW group partners to keep up to date with latest group developments.

(such as sales volumes, production volume, number of bought parts etc.)
Responsible for Validation test and sign off of systems and components in area of responsibility.

Identify Engineering solutions to meet the requirements of the project description using technology available within group and industry.

Ability to communicate at various levels across the company in different forums
Design and development skills
Ability to influence colleagues within your area of responsibility
Understanding of financial limits within area of responsibility
Skills required by local area
German language preferable

Advanced knowledge of Engineering materials and processes

Engineering Degree or equivalent in Material Science or Mechanical Engineering
Automotive interior trim experience with good understanding of material applications
Associate membership of a relevant professional intuition preferable
