The Role:
MAIN GOALS AND OBJECTIVES


- To provide dedicated technical expertise across the whole business to ensure the quality of materials and/ or fluids utilised within the manufacture of company products.
- Responsible for Part Assurance on a set of components to ensure the correct use of materials, review of supplier submissions, and any subsequent testing and analysis.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES


Part Assurance - Evaluation and Risk Assessment

- Responsible for advising Engineering and Production on materials selection and production techniques.
- Write technical testing specifications to ensure the quality of components when the materials or usage are outside the scope of internal standards.
- Approve BID specs and drawings when required.
- Carry out assessments of components and work cross functionally to establish and prioritise higher risk components.
- Establish release plan for higher risk components and arrange early pre- submission testing.
- Report progress on parts status.

Part Assurance - Development and Proactive Testing

- Evaluates the materials capability of new suppliers or processes by the means of prior submission comparative component testing.
- Visits suppliers to provide technical expertise during part development.
- Test and develop new materials and finish to improve cost and/ or quality.
- Analyse and report on failures during development testing.
- Liaise with group counterparts over new developments and suppliers.
- Report progress on parts status and escalates concerns when required.

Part Assurance - Submissions Evaluation

- Responsible for sentencing Material Note Status for a nominated set of parts.
- Evaluate the supplier materials submission for components.
- Ensure critical over - checks of testing are carried out to ensure conformance.
- Technically evaluate failures and provide advise on improvement activities to expedite a release note status.
- Work closely with Supplier Quality to procure improved parts and submissions.
- Report progress on parts status and escalates concerns when required.

Failure Analysis

- Responsible for the failure analysis of any component, in any stage of the product cycle.
- Consider implications to process and product liability and act accordingly.
- Escalate issues when required.
- Work with appropriate areas of the business to implement solutions and permanent corrective actions.
- Present findings at business forums, including board level.

Laboratory Activities

- Create and review laboratory processes and procedures.
- Support Laboratory Whole Vehicle Testing programs; Sunshine and Corrosion Car.
- Carry out routine testing on products made by the company or external suppliers to ensure continued conformance.
- Actively increase skill level on knowledge, equipment, group and suppliers.
- Train others and actively share knowledge and skills.

Health and Safety

- Responsible for ensuring that activities carried out are covered by Risk Assessments when required.
- Comply with company H&S policy at all times.


SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

- Experience of material testing.
- Some level of materials specification knowledge.
- Able to use a wide range of laboratory equipment.
- Develop specific expertise in several areas of specialist materials.
- Competent failure analysis capability.
- Excellent verbal and written levels of communication.


PRACTICAL AND TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE

- Materials discipline such as Metals, Polymers, Brand Materials or Chemistry.
- Specifying testing, analysing and developing materials.
- Competent in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
