The Company:
Our Client is a leading Outsourced Service Provider within the Defence, Science and Nuclear sectors. As part of continual expansion they are actively looking to recruit a Mechanical Engineer to work within the Engineering Analysis Team to resolve mechanical engineering and cooling issues in a data centre environment, in order to ensure the health and continued operation of critical systems.

The Role:
Become an expert in the topography of the site mechanical and cooling systems
 Identify, advocate and implement improvements to site mechanical and cooling systems to improve availability, reliability, efficiency and sustainability
 Review designs for the installation, modification and maintenance of mechanical and cooling systems, in compliance with site regulations
 Research, advocate and implement innovative engineering tools, products and solutions
 Participate in mechanical services outage/anomaly planning, mitigation, recovery and post mortems
 Provide mechanical engineering input to power outage/anomaly planning, mitigation, recovery and post mortems
 Provide mechanical planning expertise, to improve the future provision of mechanical systems
 Provide cooling consultation expertise, to ensure the effective and efficient operation of cooling plant, chilled water distribution systems and Computer Room Air Conditioning (CRAC) units
 Provide air flow expertise, to ensure the effective and efficient supply of chilled air in data centre areas
 Provide mechanical safety expertise, including reviewing all related site processes, procedures, risk assessments and method statements
 Carry out thermal modelling using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software
 Participate in site system installation review and control processes and enforce site installation requirements
 Represent the Engineering Analysis Team and customer at a wide range of meetings, briefings and site surveys
 Research, write and present technical briefings and white papers
 Measure, document and analyse temperature and air flow to support the above duties, including thermodynamic analysis
 Research and advocate cutting edge cooling solutions that transcend the traditional chilled water loop & CRAC unit model, in order to assist site to meet energy efficiency and sustainability goals
 Promote strategies, techniques and solutions for the sustainable use of energy
 Provide support, advice, guidance and expertise to the wider facilities management team as required

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
 Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering
 Substantial experience of a similar role
 Previous experience of working with CRAC units, industrial refrigeration systems and large volume chilled water loop systems, preferably in a data centre environment
 Experience of using Microsoft Office Suite
 Membership of a relevant professional organisation
