The Company:
Our client has been established for over 20 years locally and is focused on delivering design solutions to the nuclear industry, specialising in the design of mechanical handling plant and equipment, the design and installation of plant control systems and the provision of support to plant safety reviews.

The Role:
Mechanical Engineer – Products & Services Division, Submarine Escape and Rescue Services (SERS) Engineering Support Cell – Inchinnan, Glasgow, UK

Our client, based in Inchinnan, provides a range of specialist, underwater operating and engineering services in the defence sector worldwide and is looking to recruit a Mechanical Engineer to support its growing business.

Drawing support from a multi-disciplinary team, an opportunity exists for a Mechanical Engineer to work within the Engineering Support Cell in Inchinnan, and occasionally on-site at our client's locations around the world, to provide engineering/technical support to a range of Submarine Escape and Rescue Services and wider marine-focused customers.

Day to Day Role

Engineering/technical support to our client’s SERS, Marine and underwater business and wider customer base
Identify Root Cause and Corrective Actions for a wide range of technical issues
Dealing with defect correction, process improvements, and engineering changes
Work independently and as part of team to resolve time-critical technical issues from operational systems in support of our client’s commitment to world-wide rescue system availability
Support continuous improvement within the business
Development and adherence of processes, in accordance with QA Department

Occasional Role

Work Offshore for operational exercises
Travel overseas to other sites to support maintenance/modification activities
Travel to suppliers/contractors and manage/communicate/present project specifics
Attend training courses as required to maintain proper certification of duties

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Essential Attributes

 Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
 Sound knowledge of mechanical engineering principals
 Familiar with engineering design software tools / CAD packages
 Aware of Safety and Quality issues with the ability to advise and enforce
 Comfortable working independently on complex and varied problems
 Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal
 Focused on delivering to tight deadlines and specifications
 Capable of reacting to changes and willing to go the extra mile to deliver quality products
 Display a professional manner and willingness to learn
 Comfortable dealing directly with customers, suppliers and contractors
 Fully familiar with Microsoft Office suite

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
Desirable Attributes

 Knowledge and experience of mechanical systems used and operated in the underwater domain
 Familiar with Autodesk design software (AutoCAD Mechanical and Inventor)
 Familiar with international Quality and Safety standards
 Familiar with working to marine and defence standards
 Background in subsea/offshore/defence – 3 years plus experience
 Previous experience of commercially sensitive projects and the security aspects this entails
 Willing to travel and have a current, valid passport
 Full clean driving licence
 UK Government Security Clearance
 Chartered Engineer
