The Role:
The primary purpose of the Technical Authority is the safeguarding of technical integrity on our clients facilities.
• The Technical Authority is a senior role within the company and they will be a recognised subject matter expert for their particular discipline
• The Technical Authority will provide direct and impartial feedback on the integrity status of our clients UK facilities and where concerns exists ensure these are effectively communicated to senior management
• Key role in ensuring that the risks associated with Major Accident Hazards are fully understood and are being effectively managed
• The Technical Authority will support and share the companies drive for technical excellence. They will also provide technical direction and approve the introduction of appropriate new technology and procedural changes that will benefit the overall asset safety performance and sustainability.
Duties/Responsibilities;
• Strive to create a safe workplace and to protect the environment
• Technical Authority for mechanical and rotating equipment
• Ensure an appropriate suite of technical standards and procedures for the mechanical discipline is in-place and is kept up to-date with the latest best practice / industry standards.
• Ensure technical conformity and compliance with legislation, EU directives and company engineering standards. This responsibility shall include providing interpretation and guidance on these documents to the benefit of our clients UK assets
• Conduct regular thorough reviews (e.g. 3-yearly) of the mechanical discipline technical standards and procedures to ensure they remain fit for purpose
• Approve or reject requests for deviations from their discipline technical standards and procedures and ensure these are assessed for risk, documented for action and recorded on a deviations register
• Onshore technical review of proposals for operating equipment and plant in a non standard way and for recommending (or rejecting) their operation in this manner
Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent engineering subject)
• Chartered Mechanical Engineer
• Previous experience in a similar role, preferably gained within the oil and gas industry
• Knowledge of associated technical/engineering disciplines e.g. instrument and controls, process engineering
• Technical proficiency in IT programmes/systems e.g. Excel, SAP MMS, engineering software
• Experience of dealing with HSE-OSD, DECC and industry workgroups
• Knowledge of ATEX Regulations with respect to Mechanical Equipment
