The Company:
Our Client is an International Oil and Gas Operator involved in 2 of Australia's largest LNG Projects based in Western Australia. The Role:
We are looking for an experienced Bio Security, Operational Scientist who can provide technical support on a major oil and gas project here in Western Australia. You will be responsible for ensuring relevant work scopes are completed on time and in line with project requirements. The role will involve contractor liaison and reviewing reports, good time management skills are key as you will be prioritising a varying work load.

The successful candidate will be able to confidently prepare and provide technical information to the Environment and Quarantine Superintendent, in order to support compliance with Ministerial Conditions and project requirements. You will also assist with commissioning and implementation of diagnostic techniques, structured and unstructured survey apparatus and methods. This will include reviewing and assessing performance of the QMS on the project.

The position requires the ability to provide technical support on identification of quarantine risk material / specimens . Additionally, the position requires a broad understanding of the full range of quarantine activities; encompassing pre-border, border and post-border operations. It requires an understanding of the science underpinning the identification and preservation of quarantine risk material , mitigation, control, eradication and rehabilitation strategies coupled with an ability to interpret scientific reports

Key Job Responsibilities:

10%
Provide guidance and advice for the effective implementation and functioning of the Quarantine Management System (QMS) to prevent the introduction, establishment or spread of non-indigenous species onto the project site or in the waters surrounding the site.

20%
Assist in the preparedness for potential non-indigenous species incursions on site by ensuring the Project’s on-Island capability to implement the Incursion Response Plan, Species Action Plans for vertebrates, invertebrates, plants and invasive marine pests, and coordinate incursion response training and exercises.

Assist with collation of intercept data and assess risk of organisms to the site area. Process documentation associated with border breeches, including notifying stakeholders, analysis of causes, and develop recommendations for risk management.

15%
Assist with the engagement and coordination of a network of scientific resources, research institutes and contractors both internal and external to the company to provide scientific services, implement detection surveillance, conduct eradication or control activities and undertake research to test or improve the Quarantine Management System. Assist with the preparation of documentation to support findings and recommendations.

30%
Provide technical support ensuring relevant scope of works, contractor liaison, reviewing reports and prioritising work. Prepare and provide technical information to the Environment and Quarantine Superintendent to support compliance with Ministerial Conditions and project requirements. Assist with commissioning and implementation of diagnostic techniques, structured and unstructured survey apparatus and methods. Review and assess performance of the QMS on site.

5%
Present Quarantine Awareness to on-site contractors.

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
Environmental Science Degree - Bachelor of Science (BSc), Biology and Environmental Science or Similar
