The Role:
The Operations Technician works as a member of a shift team (at times alone), and is responsible for the safe, efficient operation, maintenance & improvement of the combined heat and intelligent power plant (CHiP) in line with business and statutory needs. Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, this is a dual operational and maintenance role, working shift and days patterns.

Responsibilities:

- Ensure safe, environmental & statutory compliant CHiP operation and maintenance by monitoring, inspecting and controlling plant parameters & providing appropriate first line maintenance.
- Operate plant ensuring compliance with safety, environmental & statutory requirements.
- Assist & respond effectively to operational demands achieving safe and efficient generation within prescribed limits to ensure the process is operated safely at all times.
- Identify operation outside prescribed limits ensuring corrective actions are taken. Where there are Process Safety impacts to immediately alert the Site Management Team & record appropriately.
- Identify and immediately report plant defects, observations and anomalies that have, or have the potential to affect the safety of the process or which are noted to be abnormal to usual operations
- Complete plant routine duties maintaining commercial performance, availability and reliability.
- Complete assigned safety duties including application of safe systems of work, setting people to work, and Company safety systems.
- Plan & control system first line maintenance, fault diagnosis, reporting and documentation completion in line with safety, business and statutory requirements.
- Assist Operations Supervisor and other designated Company personnel on projects and outage preparation.
- Control the offloading of raw materials to the site. This includes road tanker fuel, oil and Urea deliveries, ensuring that each product is diverted to the dedicated storage tanks.
- Conduct sampling activities from the plant fuel systems to ensure product specification is correct and note all results for Ofgem compliance.
- Positively present the role of Operations Technician and Company to the rest of the CHiP site, the Company business, its contractors and customers.
- In line with business & statutory requirements, develop & maintain documentation, records & procedures.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Qualifications:
- Time served apprenticeship (Level 3) in an engineering or process discipline.

Experience:
- Contributing to continuous process/production/ operational environments.
- First line maintenance.
- Following procedures, systems & processes.
- Working to targets.
- Working a shift pattern.
- Supporting planning & outage management.

Knowledge:
- Safe System of Work processes & procedures including permit to work, incident control, risk assessments and method statements.

Software Knowledge:
- Microsoft Office: word, excel & email.

Management of Self & Others:
- Completes activities to continuously develop self & progress career.
- Confident to make appropriate decisions, without manager consultation.

Ability Traits:
- Strong team player. Contributes to & working own and cross-functional teams.
- Confident in fault finding, problem solving, data monitoring.
- Uses own judgement to make practical recommendations.

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
Qualifications:
- HNC/HND: EC&I, Mechanical or Process discipline.

Experience:
- Power plant operational experience & knowledge.
- Power plant generating units, Marine diesel engines or turbo expander units operations & maintenance.
- Electrical Switching.
- Commissioning.
- Developing and reviewing operational procedures.
- Maintaining relationships, with customers, contractors & authorities.

Knowledge:
- Commercial awareness of the energy market- legislation & regulations.
- Safety Rules authorisation.
- IOSH Managing Safely
- Quality systems, processes & standards.

Software Knowledge:
- Data management systems.

Management of Self & Others:
- Team Leader experience.
- Coaching, training & mentoring.
