The Company:
A luxury Automotive OEM based in the West Midlands. After continued growth & success there are a number of new exciting engineering projects underway and we currently have requirements for experienced engineering professionals.

The Role:
The paint engineer’s role involves general Manufacturing Engineering responsibilities within Paint Operations, however this role will have specific responsibilities for the programming / optimization of the current equipment and identification of next generation equipment / programming.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks
•Responsibility of the paint robots cells in terms of continuous improvement and programming changes for current / new model requirements.
•Provision of practical engineering support to the production team in maintaining all paint shop robots and associated equipment to ensure volume and quality targets are achieved.
•Supporting new equipment and refurbishment activities in support of the Facilities & Maintenance department.
•Problem resolution based on all quality metrics both internal and external to paint operations including AMCPA and Warranty.
•Continuous improvement and enhancement to paint cells for optimized performance.
•Process Development and Maintenance: Produce detailed process step sheets, including visual aids, quality requirements and safety information. Maintain Ease deck.
•Process Control: Maintain and control processes by utilising SPC techniques and drive improvements by reducing process variability.
•Facilities / Layout: Work with Facilities and Production to determine efficient station layouts, including modifications to existing facilities. Liaise with external suppliers of equipment and compile necessary documents for implementation and approval.
•Manpower: Work with Industrial Engineers to develop effective manpower requirements reflecting volume mix and model specification, including methods improvements to achieve hours per car target.
•Tooling: Select appropriate tools, jigs and fixtures, including specialised hand tools, power tool, spraying equipment to meet vehicle quality and hours per car targets, whilst ensuring operator safety targets are achieved.
•Health and Safety: Liaise with the Health and Safety department to ensure all processes and materials are suitable for the manufacturing environment. Complete project Environmental Checklists when raising Projects.
•Production Support: Investigate and resolve Manufacturing Engineering related issues, providing timely containments to ensure that product quality is not compromised and inform technicians of process changes.
•Quality Improvements: Work with Current Vehicle Engineering to ensure new or modified product content is integrated seamlessly into the production environment.
•Technical Support: Provide information of paint process/sequence and technical specifications

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
•Paint application experience is essential (Primer, base & Clear coat – water & solvent based).
•Experience in conveyor / robot integration.
•Understanding of Paint Application Equipment (ABB & DURR), Robot Bell Applicators, 2k mixing systems. Cartridge paint systems.
•Ability to interpret engineering drawing, electrical schematic and Siemens software structures.
•Robot teaching/programming experience. Siemens plc programming, ABB Rapid programming, MS Visual Basic, ABB Shopfloor Editor, DURR ECO systems.
•Flexible approach to work including shift work and weekends.
•Electrical and Mechanical maintenance experience of DURR and ABB robot manipulators and associated paint application equipment including fault finding.
•Ability to create and maintain visual indicators (excel graphs) to communicate current and future positions of projects / countermeasure actions at a senior level.
